As for collecting old things, I collect old Halloween decorations and Victorian postcards, particularly the Halloween postcards. I adore antique decorations. I recently bought some of those old light-up orange and black plastic pumpkin figures from the fifties. They're worth a bit of money, probably a hundred for the pair, and I paid five bucks at a cheap antique store. I went to plug them in, thinking they wouldn't work, and they lit right up! One of them hadn't even had it's bulb changed in who knows how long. That is true quality.

oh lawd, my house is full of old stuff.....plates hanging on the walls from the 50's, an old barrel that was dads. i use it for setting a plant on.

i have an old plow that i have pics of dad plowing behind a mule with before i was born....old valentines cards from when mom was a kid-all of the feature tanks or some other war item on them....

the small table that my tv is sitting on is one my aunt, whoi is 92, saw and said "lordy i did a lot of homework sitting at that desk".

i use a black and white kitchen aid mixer that mom got got a wedding present in 1950-still have the owners manual for it.....

im looking around this dang room and realizing i have bunches of old stuff.....and i wouldt trade any of it for something newer.......

my house was built in 1940 sumthing.....it amazes folks that theres not one piece of plywood, its all pine planks. this room im sitting in is all knotty pine-even the ceiling.

gawd i love my home!!! thanks for the thread, made me appreciate things this am.

I have tons of old things, I even started selling them on E-Bay. I am always on the look out for auctions, yard sales and flea markets. I have loads of paper items such as old magazines, post cards, newsparers etc. I am david3764 on E-Bay.

i love older stuff. i collect older firearms, particularly pre-WW I semiautomatic pistols. The design, engineering, and (usually) finish are just remarkable. i'm a sucker for a fine piece of machining. Today, you couldn't have someone replicate the slide from a Sauer & Sohn 1913/1930 pistol for the price of the gun itself.

Older tools are built to last... i've been looking for an older lathe and mill for years, they're just never around when i have money. A lathe from the 1950s usually costs more than a brand new one, but they're worth it. After 50 years of use they hold tighter tolerances than one just off the boat from China.

i've instituted a fiberboard ban in our house... No more. Now i pick up old furniture on Craigslist for a fraction of the cost- real wood, dovetailed joins... needs a bit of refinishing, and doesn't match anything else, but who cares? Now i've started looking out for old solid wood doors to replace the modern crap ones on the house.

And nothing warms up a dungeon like vintage blacksmithed restraints
