Hi, (as an aside for no good reason other than to memorialize the moment - this is the first public post from my brand new laptop - gift from Sir for our anniversary this week!) Sir and i were married a long time before we fell into the dark side, and when we began our explorations of "real Ds" we wanted a way to seperate the Ds us from the 'nilla us. OK, yeah, we didn't have a clue at the time, i admit that! Anyway, He gave it a lot of thought. My birthstone and favorite stone is the opal. I wear a huge fire opal ring all the time. I love opals because they have such deep colors and they seem to be always moving inside, always changing and the sunlight brings out new hues constntly. The only input i had in selecting a name was whether i might like a stone or a flower better and i said stone. Argent is Latin and was used in heraldry for silver. Neither Argent nor myself like gold very much and all my jewelry including weding bands are silver. When you think about jewlery the setting, the metal part, holds and protects the stone - the silver holds and protects the opal. So a lot of thought went into our "scene names". We do not hide, we host meetings and parties in our home and many people know who we are. OTOH, our family has heard Sir call me opal and when a grandum asked about it, i just said it was grandpas nickname for me and that was OK with them. They hear me say Sir or Daddy all the time, and no one says anything about that either. Personally, I think selecting a name that you like and feels good and "fits" in this arena of your life can be fun and can just help us be who we are. After all, our parents named us before they "knew" us and sometimes a birth name just doesn't fit right. opal
