Hi Requiem,

Yes, the tasks that he has to complete usually have nothing to do with the source of the fear, the only correlation is in how important the object of the fear is. The more important, the more demanding and brutal the task that has to be completed to bring about an abatement. Last time it triggered badly he spent 4 days without sleep completing and redoing the same tasks over and over until it eased off.

For the record, he's Dominant.

SFM....just wondering, has he ever asked for or accepted help...and i don't mean medications, i don't take medication for anything but seizures, because they got too dibilitating, and there is plenty they want me on meds for....it's just that going through anything with support is a lighter load to bare...and does not make you weak, it makes you smart....

He has a female friend helping and keeping an eye on him, taking him to the hospital when he cuts his hand open handling broken glass shards and the like.

RP - it seems like you have a handle on it. You know your limits. You know you should seek a dom who sets limits. I would add that you kick in your OCD early and over communicate about your condition once you have established a relationship. That will take some of the burden off of you about worrying whether you need to be totally perfect. Your dom would know your limits and in theory he would be happy also.

Good luck

Thank you very much Mr. Spectacular!

FR- It might not be your fault, but that doesn't mean you get to use it as an excuse for poor behavior or interference with orders and life functioning.  I hate when ADD people do that, too.

You need to be up front with exactly how your OCD manifests itself before you get into any serious type of commitment.

If you do get into a serious type of commitment, you will have to form coping mechanisms (many great ideas given here) to adjust.  I'd also strongly suggest therapy.  YOu need to get to the source of your anxiety and control issues.

The one good thing about OCD is that focus and behavioral cognitive therapy can be VERY helpful with someone who sincerely wants to make progress (this is mostly because focus and behavioral cognitive connections are at the very base of OCD)

Some extreme forms of OCD (which is more an umbrella term than a specific disease) are caused by misfires in the parts of the brain associated with fear at a primal level - something in line of epilepsy.

Ha ha- had to happen sometime, I (LuckyAlbatross) posted under my partners name.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: the OCD slave (11/3/2007 5:04:45 PM)

Yes and bipolar is caused by chemical imbalances and ADD caused by brain functioning change as well.  So?  They are still expected to act appropriately in the relationships they choose to form.  If they need to be excused for their bad behavior, they either need to find a nicely lenient partner or not get involved at all.
