ManOfAdventures -> Might As Well Face It You're Addicted to Love (The Age Gap) (11/3/2007 9:57:03 AM)

My dog and I were on campus walking up University Hill last night, when ahead of me were two pale skinned, yet heavily made up girls with slicked back hair, wearing ittle black dresses, and matching tights.

As is often the case, they paused and started a conversation with me about the dog. We spoke for a bit, about dogs and the merits of 4" F**k Me Pumps for hill climbing.
Given that Halloween was two days prior, I said "The two of you look like you stepped out of a Robert Palmer Video" and was greeted with completely blank stares.

During the silence, broken only by the blinking of heavily mascaraed eyelashes, it occurred to me that Palmer's Grammy winning "Addicted to Love" topped the Billboard 100 on May 3rd 1986, quite possibly before both of them were born, I know this because I have a copy of "Riptide" on VINYL at home.

"Riptide" sold well due in no small part to the strength of its video staring Palmer and four women clad remarkably similarly to the girls I was speaking. VH1 ranked it 3rd on their list of top 20 videos of the 80's and it was parodied numerous times including by Palmer himself using his signature models in "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On", "Simply Irresistible" , and "Change His Ways".

I searched for a reference point they'd understand, but telling them they resembled women from Patrick Nagel's (of Duran Duran's "Rio" album cover fame) paintings did not seem much better.

I thought of Shania, but "Man! I Feel like a Woman!", was released over a decade ago and even Bill Nighy's character, "Billy Mack" did his Palmer remake in the R-rated "Love Actually" in November 2003 (Shortly after Palmer's death on September 26th, 2006 in Paris France). Four years ago most undergrads would have been too young to see it.

It seemed as though the deer in the headlights look would continue forever when I finally said "You know, like in Beyoncé's "Green light"! Finally I got simultaneous nods and stares.

It is almost enough to make me start dating women my own age... [sm=ofcourse.gif]

Yeah, I face this everyday--try teaching college students who were born when George H. Bush was president.

actually something that happens to me on a regular basis, is I work with quite a few teenagers and those in their 20's and they would be talking about a group that I never heard of, and would ask "who's that?" get that blank stare, "like how could you not know who ______is!"lol.  that makes feel alittle old.

I get that blank stare a lot from my UM's...fortunately I just laugh and tell them their time will come!

And as for dating women your own age, ManofAdventures, don't knock it until you try it! You know women don't even hit their sexual peak until they are in their mid-thirties! [8D]

Taking my thirty something hiney to bed,
kat
