You are not feeling this in your magnificent MacGuffies?

Curiously,

I nursed my munchkin for a few days over a year, about 85 to 90% of the time. I loved every moment of it.  I found out my mother nursed me for about the same amount of time an I have placed at MENSA since I was 16. Their is soooo many benefits to breast feeding, I can't begin to count them, besides the fact that women lose weight faster, its a bonding experience, its what your baby is suppoes to eat, your breasts get bigger, lol. Heck, if I could find a partner who wants a baby or at least wants to induce lactation, I am all for it; I would do it in a heart beat. I LOVED being pregnant and nursing, it was an experience I won't ever forget.

My head banging was due to the fact that I find the 'findings' incredibly stupid as well as disparaging for people who can't or choose not to breastfeed for one reason or another.  Talk about placing more guilt on mothers shoulders.

My daughter spoke and walked before she was a year, could join mensa right now - I haven't pushed her to, that will be her choice.  She is top of her year and had the reading ability of a person 6 years her senior and can speak 3 languages.  My son is in all the top classes for his options as well as the usual math/english etc, could hold a conversation from a year and has the highest science and math sats results for two counties.

I bonded extremely well, I have good MacGuffies (as Ron can tell you), my weight is comfortable and there is no asthma, sickness or illness in the family.

I never breast fed.

No doubt there! They are extremely bright children, a credit to their mother. Honestly, when in conversation with either, it is easy to forget you are speaking to a non adult. And the politeness I have not seen better.

So my density is nothing to do with the fact I was a formula baby.

I guess it is a bit like saying men are taller than women. We all know that not all men are taller than all women, it is a statistic thing and no doubt so with this.

Stands to common sense to me that breast feeding is healthier than formula feeding providing the mother is healthy and providing enough milk and healthier usually means brighter.

Doesn't the report say that a child will be more intelligent if they are breast fed in nine out of ten cases? That means your intelligent children would probably be even more intelligent if you had breast fed them.

The whole report is based on a single gene - so the nine out of ten are those that have the gene itself.
What I am against is pushing breast feeding as the 'reason' and is entirely misleading.  It isn't.  It is based on the gene itself, which breaks down fatty acids, which links to brain development.

over all, what I have noticed is that formula fed babys are heavier than breast fed children, breast milk carries the mothers antibodies for different illness's but some babies are lactose intollerent and cant breast feed, In my opinion lactating women are all that plus a little more!

didn't breastfeed my 2 and they aren't heavier but both are brainiacs.

i just picked up my youngest UM's report card and she's reading on 1st grade level ...plus she's exceeeding/meeting grade level than the rest of the class. the teacher and i discussed about putting her in 1st grade after 2nd semester - i said no ...i want her to experience K yet working on 1st grade level.  now my oldest, despite her brain injury, is in the top 10% of her graduating class.

Breasts were MADE to feed babies. Biological fact. Why NOT give a baby the best start they can in life and to feed them ther BEST food that their is avaliable?! It's cheap. Its readily avaliable for most women [some like myself had milk in the last few days of pregnancy]. You don't have to carry around bottles or heat it up, so its VERY convient.  I could feed my munchkin any where when he was hungry and in the middle of the night, I didn't have to get out of bed; I pumped when I was not able to nurse so he got a bottle and some formula due to some complications I had; but for the most part, it was the right choice for me, I can't think of many other things as a woman that I could give my baby that is as vital as nurishment.

Formulas are ok, but, they are NOT 100% natural.  Besides, in the latest reports I read, women who breast feed LOWER their chances of breast cancer, another reason for me be gung ho about it.  No women in my family have had it {knock on wood}, thank goodness, but, if it puts any power or keeps cancer away from me, I am all for it.

Because i didn't want to breast feed.

This is actually a subject that really winds me up. Breast fed kid's being more intelligent!! Bottle fed kids being fatter!!

My daughter was bottle fed and is not fat and shes very intelligent and healthy. Do i think it made a difference that i didn't bottle feed her - hell no!!

Can i prove it? No but neither can those who claim breast is best prove that either

I didn't find it bonding or arousing. I didn't nurse my UMs to make them smater better or faster. I liked the idea of the antibodies, I liked that it was easier on their little bellies, and I loved the convenience.

Study after study, whether one chooses to believe them or not, has shown that a birthmother's breast milk produces the exact hormones, vitamins and nutrients that the mother's particular baby needs, and infants should optimally be breast fed for at least 6 months but even better if a year.

It is true not everyone can breast feed.  My sister couldn't; her baby boys were adopted.  She tried to self lactate but was unable.  Rather than put the infants on standard formula which is filled with sugars and chemicals, she fed them organic goats milk with the juice of steamed vegetables and Bronsons minerals.  The first baby was severely premie and his digestive tract could not handle standard formula.

I think the pendulum swings back and forth, however.  For a time it was thought ridiculous and unnecessary to breastfeed when a working mother could formulize the kid and not think twice.  Breastfeeders were criticized for their practice.  Then formula feeders were criticized.    It seems each "side" feels a sense of arrogance coming from the other "side."

I'm on the side of giving a baby the best possible start, whatever that may be.

If you're so smart, how about thinking of the women in the world who CAN'T breast feed for various reasons. You're going on and on about how good you were, how clever you are, how clever your kids are. Well fucking hell, aren't you just the paragon of virtue?

My mother wasn't breast fed because her mother died just after she was born. One VERY smart lady, my Mother. I didn't feed one of my babies because my milk simply ran out. A bugger that, but here he is, 22 years old and as intelligent and slim as you can get.  I was breast fed and have a very high IQ. I don't put it down to breastfeeding. I put it down to good genes, an enquiring mind and a good education.

YOUR way isn't the way of others. Biological fact.

Your posts definitely make me question just how smart you really are.

Breasts aren't made to feed babies - the milk is - biological fact.  Breasts are the tool, not the food.
Not wearing bras or bikinis may keep breast cancer away also -  and don't use deos either as that could also cause cancer of the breast - research is a wonderful thing - which of those do you also follow?

My beef is that breastfeeding is the cause on this issue.  It isn't - it's the gene - and to suggest otherwise gives mothers the wrong infomation.

my doctor told me that the choice to breastfeed is individual.  Since the study talked about a specific gene, i don't know how genes are transmitted in breastmilk......cuz they are NOT.  The infant formulas today are identical to the composition of breastmilk sans antibodies and antibodies is the best reason to choose breastfeeding in my opinion.  Formula is better in some ways because it is consistant, not dependent upon what mom eats or drinks.  A lot of women cannot breastfeed because they need to take medications that pass through the milk, there are a variety of reasons why breastfeeding isn't the best choice.  But now women are made to feel badly about themselves for not breastfeeding??  How simply awful!  Now we are trying to say if you don't breastfeed your kid could be a dolt and it's all your fault??  Shameful.

i breastfed my first child for no other reason that i had a physically damaging delivery.  my doctor told me my body would repair itself faster if i could breastfeed for a few weeks at least.  i had to go back to work 6 weeks after delivery and i was not going to be a milk-pumping cow with stains on every blouse i owned.  On my doctor's advice for my own healing i breastfed and i liked it because i didn't have to pour anything, heat anything or even be fully awake!  When i went back to work, my kid got formula.  Now i'm being told she could have been even smarter if i'd breastfed longer?  What a crock!

Yeah, a child has to have the gene to benefit in this way from breastfeeding but since 9 out of 10 babies have this gene, that suggests that 9 out of 10 babies will benefit from breastfeeding. Unless you are sure your baby is the 1 in 10 that doesn't have this gene then a mother would be better off breast feeding her baby for this benefit.

Breast feeding isn't the trigger, the gene is and it's to do with fatty acids.
Many people cannot breast feed for one reason or another so they bottle feed by expressing or using fomula.  Toxic milk syndrome, allergies - cleft palette.  Breastfeeding is a choice, not a guilt trip.

the.dark.

edit -As I understand - I believe it was on bbc news (thats just me trying to remember so I can't recommend it as acurate) - that have the gene there is a percentage, which 9 out of 10 who hold the gene will benefit from.
