Violet wands are AMAZING toys - and, as with anything else, there are risks.

Be careful with how much metal you're wearing. The current can cause burns (similar to a sunburn) if the skin is in contact with metal for too long. I've seen brandings done with a wand - so keep that in mind.

Also - the wand itself usually has some sort of time limit for use before you break it. Standard time I've heard is twenty minutes at a go, then let it cool for a while.

It gives off a lot of ozone, so make sure you're in a well-ventilated area.

Toys to use with a wand are pretty varied - you can use ball-link chain (similar to what's used for military ID tags), mylar strips (you can even buy pre-made 'floggers', but I would advise against any impact play with them), and several attachments for the wand itself. Body contact probes are good if you want to do straight up contact play - using fingers against the other person's skin. The pretty bulbs come in different shapes, and can offer a variety of sensations.

Um....that's all I can think of, but I know there's more.

(Edited to...add more. *chuckle*)

The Violet wand has been around a very long time used for many claime reason like hair  regrowth ,calm womens hysterias ,to name a couple .Back then it was called a violet ray , they were not grounded units ,had cloth corded standard 2 prong  plugs .They came in a neat lil case  complete with instrustions . Years later the heal claims turned them into a quack medical device .Turn now to modern day and us kinkster have found a new use for them .If buying  a wand i would suggest getting the most complete kit you can with as many attachments as you can in a single  suitcased kit as buying it all seperate will be far more in the end .Also a good idea to get a ceramic core VS a wax core unit . the wax core tend to heat up after a period of time and need a rest if not the wax core will  break down .you can learn even more at www.violetwand.com .When i am using the wand on people i steer clear of the heart area and the  spinal cord line , also never get it even remotly close to the eyes .There have been cases where people have gotten into trouble while playing and were unaware of a heart problem or a pace maker .
With a body contact pad and hands free foot pedal you can charge your  own body and shock through yourself as an instrument .The shocking elctro kisses are always  fun .Mylar whips can be made or bought for an electric flogging ,also most metal while using a body contact pad will transfer the shock .There is an adjustment knob to raise and lower how intense the unit is .With a bulb adaptor Many common bulbs can be used aswell .This is not a cheap item to add to your collection either . Abasic unint or i should say a basic quality unit with the bare min will run3-400 + dollars i have seen the higher end all enclusive kits run into the high hundreds and even reach the 1,000$ mark . Shopping around is a great idea , buying blind Online is not so much .Use a reputable dealer for this item and you will be much happier in the long  run . Knives and carbon fiber rods can also be used to brand the skin aswell the fine point make for a concentrated application .
Hope that help s - be safe and enjoy .

I quite agree, especially about getting a more modern unit with a ceramic core.  Whenever I use mine,  it tends to be on for a looooonnnnng time.  In private because we just love it and in public because we often attract attention and people ask to try it.

I'd say simply keep it away from the face.  The sparks can damage the eyes and the rest of the body offers far better fun.

Don't wear a watch,  whichever side you are on,  apparently the VW can stop them.
Don't use on someone wearing either a hearing aid or pace maker.  (I don't know what effect it would have,  but as several reliable sources all said this,  it's something I've stuck to over the years).

I frequently use it over the heart area, (note this is a Violet Wand ).

Be aware that some attachments can leave what looks like a heat rash and which may last a few days.  I've noticed this with the mylar flogger most,  but also with metalic tinsle.

As with most things,  start low and see it's effect when used on the various body parts.

Move it about.  Aparently keeping it in one place can leave a burn like sunburn.   I've never known anyone do it,  but it does seem logical.

Be careful with piercings,  especially if there is any gap between bar etc and the hole it's through.

I strongly reccommend that you do not insert into any body orafice.   Obviously the glass attachments can break/shatter,  but even the safest material may do damage to the much more sensitive internal tissue.

Any number of metal and metallic objects can be used,  experiment.  Think finger armour,  metallic pan scrubbers, banjo picks,

Small neon tubes are good too.  They glow brighter as you near the skin and the feel is sharper.

Buy the best kit you can, preferably from a reputable dealer and/or get it checked over by someone who knows what they are doing.

And never step too close while peeing on an electrified cattle fence. No pleasure, no ozone...just plain, dumb-ass numb-nut pain!

Not to go against this as i do think it's sound advice............,
However i have had one used internally on me and it was fantastic

Comedy can ensue.

My first experience using a violet wand... I had the contact plate on my hip, and I had these nails on my fingertips.  She enjoyed the sensation of the scratching and electricity a lot.  I enjoyed doing it, a lot.

What I didn't enjoy was waking up the next morning and suffering the consequences of current running through my body from my hip to my fingers.  It was like just the right side of my body ran a marathon.

Don't forget your physics when playing with electricity :)

people have very different reactions to it.  for some people its very intense and painful unless very low settings are used.  so, as was stated before, start low and work your way up.  my own reaction is that i laugh uncontrollably. i mean serious belly laughter that pretty much continues until the wand is turned off.  you can imagine the workout my abdominal muscles get when we play for 20.  i'm always starving afterwards.  the other thing to watch for is that when played with at high levels it does burn even skin to skin.  i usually end up with a few blisters on my most 'fun' parts to play with.  keep that in mind during aftercare.  enjoy it!

I used to be terrified of the things, I equated them to big bug zapper's *S*    I had my opinion changed recently :)

I discovered they can be used in a way that is incredibly sensuous and erotic, just make sure you don't accidently come in contact with something else metal yeeowch!   The first time I saw something that looked like it belonged in a Frankenstien movie coming close to me, cringing was a minor understatement. Luckily I have complete trust in Wolf, and I knew he wanted it to be a possitive experience, *s*  don't get me wrong tho,  a violet wand can go from a light, sensation to make you scream  in a very short period of time. Like anything, make sure you  know the person using it on you. After my new experience with it, I highly recommend it  :)

Wolf's not so crispy

Oh violet wands are so much fun!Seems like the general warnings have been shared.. so I will add that the grounding attachment is my personal fav as it allows me to use my nails, togue, nose any part to bring the zap and with the lights off it is rather nifty to witness the small sparks running between us. There is a handy dandy little sign that you need to stop for awhile when using the grounding attachment and your tongue .. or nose.. when you smell something burning .. yeah stop for a bit .. ALSO ... if the one who is going to be zapped has on any type of pantyhose where you are going to run it .. you might wish to request they remove it. I recall MANY years ago when I was playing with one and ended up burning the tip of my nose with her pantyhose and has this odd red circle on the tip of my nose for what seemed like the longest time... ~Laughs~ I will share that was a lesson learned oh so long ago !

during my first true session with my Dom, he used a violet wand on me and it was a very mesmorizing feeling -- i liked seeing the little sparks flick off of my breasts as he pulled it away.  it sounded like a buzz zapper.  we tried many different attachments, metal pipe cleaners were nice -- he said that the mylar pom pons are good, but he didn't have any of those.  i wasn't restrained when he used it, i wish i had been as i think it would have been a totally different experience.

My friend refplace, wanted me to post on this thread.

They make insertable electrodes made of very high pressure resistant glass. You can also adapt other things like a speculum and send a charge through that. Internal skin resistance on those membranes is going to be much lower so definately start out at a much lower power setting than you would otherwise. On the other hand, larger surface area on contact can reduce the sensation, so this is something that practice makes perfect.
