What native American animal symbol are you?

http://www.whats-your-sign.com/native-american-animal-symbols.html

How accurate do you think it is concerning yourself?

(Mine is very accurate even more so than the traditional zodiac)

I'm a Wood Pecker. Not sure how accurate it is since I think we could see some of everyone one of those in each of us from one time or another. On the flip side it does ring true to some degree.

zakkan -> RE: What native American animal are you? (11/16/2008 10:39:54 PM)

I am an Owl.

Which is funny, because according to the chinese zodiac, I'm a rabbit. And owls eat rabbits...

And btw, the chinese zodiac isn't really taken very seriously any more.

Yeah .. Yeah .. Yeah …
I know, lighten up … this IS after all “Polls and Other Random Stupidity”
( I keep telling myself )
… but …..
Sadly, while Native Nations STILL continue very real, very serious battles for something so simple and basic as our religious freedom rights,
"New Age" hucksters and other exploiters of Native Spirituality continue to run rampant, profit from what they do ... and get away with it!!

This thread ( though unintentional I'm sure ) ... is just another example of ripping off Native American Spirituality …

Normally, when this sort of thing comes up … I may sort of cringe, or I yawn, or laugh, or sometimes smile … because ripping off another person’s culture, and claiming it as your own … is sort of a compliment!!

....... Normally, I say Nothing!!
because honestly … what can we do???

The world’s fulla wannabes … wannabe bikers, wannabe cowboys, wannabe D/s-M/s folk, wannabe Native Americans/ American Indians …. wannabe this, wannabe that ….wannabe SomeOne Else!!!

But Hey ….
I don’t believe the OP meant disrespect,
And I certainly don’t think that the people who participated meant disrespect.
And I think that GrrlieGrrl meant well ….

I think this sort of thing is just a case of “Lack of Understanding" / lack of being able to see the world through Native American eyes.

(lol-I’m betting this is gonna be a case of WISHING I’d said nothing *wink* )

Darias -> RE: What native American animal are you? (11/17/2008 2:43:50 AM)

il have two of whatever hyper oso had please

being as how We are Irish bear should we be upset that the celtic symbols are being used on this site too?

anyway as has been pointed out already the OP started this thread in the P&ORS which by common CM opinion is not to be taken seriously or to heart.

seeing as how bear and others have pointed out the inaccuracys of this site because the real procedure for finding your animal is a little teeny bit more complicated than point and click , i think we can safely accept this thread and the posted site as in good fun and at the very least  complimentary

after all they say victims of copycats are doubly complimented

deep breaths, have a cookie and remember... what the monty python boys say

Crow/Raven: Sep 22 – Oct 22
Highly enthusiastic, and a natural entrepreneur, the Crow is quite a charmer. But he/she doesn't have to work at being charming – it comes easily. Everyone recognizes the Crow's easy energy, and everyone turns to the Crow for his/her ideas and opinions. This is because the Crow is both idealistic and diplomatic and is quite ingenious. In nurturing environments this Native American animal symbol is easy-going, can be romantic, and soft-spoken. Further, the crow can be quite patient, and intuitive in relationships. Left to his/her own devices, the Crow can be demanding, inconsistent, vindictive, and abrasive

dang pretty accurate that

cravesdom -> RE: What native American animal are you? (11/17/2008 7:18:37 AM)

I am part Cherokee and part Sioux. I don't see anything racist about this, but then I am not that easily offended.

That being said I am an otter. And yes, it fits me pretty well. Now is lewd a positive or a negative trait?

A little quirky, and unorthodox, the Otter is a hard one to figure sometimes. Perceived as unconventional, the Otter methods aren't the first ones chosen to get the job done. This is a big mistake on the part of others – because although unconventional, the Otter's methods are usually quite effective. Yes, the Otter has unusual way of looking at things, but he/she is equipped with a brilliant imagination and intelligence, allowing him/her an edge over every one else. Often very perceptive and intuitive, the Otter makes a very good friend, and can be very attentive. In a nurturing environment the Otter is sensitive, sympathetic, courageous, and honest. Left to his/her own devices, the Otter can be unscrupulous, lewd, rebellious, and isolated.

I don't know much about Chinese culture and the Chinese zodiac, but I do know quite a bit about Native American culture and this is the first time I've ever seen anything about an "animal zodiac."  The site makes no reference at all to exactly which of the over 500 distinct and separate Indian Nations that existed this supposed zodiac came from.

This is the first time I've posted anything here.  I did so because racism against American Indians is so accepted that it goes under most people's radar.  This link is just one example of many.

oh for goodness sakes!  Don't be ridiculous!  This is a site that can educate people about respecting animals, other cultures, and different religions in a fun and interesting way.

pfffffffffft

I wouldn't get too riled up over her ill- inform post sunshine. Even though she claims to know a lot about Native culture, that's just theory until it's backed up by following the Red Path as part of her way of life or even incorporating many of the native traditions into her way of life. It's a simple matter of adjusting the thinking to "animal guide" or "animal totem." It doesn't matter if a person is Cherokee, Sioux, Algonquin, Cree, Mohawk, Navajo or even Pres Nez, they all believe in animal spirit guides and we all must honor and respect the teachings they offer.

~bear - who follows many Native teachings for many years and is also an eagle feather carrier.  Miigwetch.

snugglesmoochnuzles bear

Oh heck, I'm not irritated.  What's funny is that I used some native american animal spirit cards when I was teaching in Korea.  The Koreans were shocked to find this kind of respect and honoring of nature by a waygooksarum.  *that would be US citizen*...  It really bridged something between the two cultures.  I love using things like that to teach...

And Miss LaT... I wanna snugglesmoochnuzzle you, but you skeer me a lil bit.  heh

Salmon: Jul 22 – Aug 21
Electric, focused, intuitive, and wholly creative, the Salmon is a real live-wire. His/her energy is palpable. A natural motivator, the Salmon's confidence and enthusiasm is easily infectious. Soon, everybody is onboard with the Salmon – even if the idea seems too hair-brained to work. Generous, intelligent, and intuitive, it's no wonder why the Salmon has no shortage of friends. This Native American animal symbol expresses a need for purpose and goals, and has no trouble finding volunteers for his/her personal crusades. In a supportive environment, the Salmon is stable, calm, sensual, and giving. Left to his/her own devices, those that bear this Native American animal symbol can be egotistical, vulgar, and intolerant of others. [8|]

Amen to the above!!

Driven is the watchword for the Goose's dominating personality trait – which makes them excellent in business and competitive sports. When tempered with supportive, nurturing family and friends, the Goose excels in all things he/she attempts. In a loving environment the Goose can be very passionate, humorous, gregarious, and even sensual. However, lead to his/her own devises, the Goose may fall into obsessive or addictive behaviors that will inevitably be his/her demise.

That is way cool!  Presently I own 3 decks of Oracle cards, Ryder-Waite, Celtic Shapeshifters and Animal Speak (Native oracle cards)

Owl: Nov 23 – Dec 21
Changeable and mutable as the wind, the Owl is a tough one to pin down. Warm, natural, with an easy-going nature, the Owl is friend to the world. The bearer of this Native American animal symbol is notorious for engaging in life at full speed, and whole-hearted loves adventure. This can be to his/her detriment as the Owl can be reckless, careless, and thoughtless. Owls make great artists, teachers, and conservationists. However, due to his/her adaptability and versatility – the Owl would likely excel in any occupation. In a supportive, nurturing environment the Owl is sensitive, enthusiastic, and an attentive listener. Left to his/her own devices, the Owl can be excessive, overindulgent, bitter, and belligerent.

This I found interesting as many stated are also applicable to a Sagg and/or a person who's born under a fire sign  (like me). Yet instinctively I know that my one animal guide is the Wolf and seems like I've acquired another, who is the Bear.

pretty accurate. [:)]

Woodpecker: Jun 21 – Jul 21
Woodpeckers are usually the most nuturing of all the Native American animal symbols. The consummate listener, totally empathic and understanding, the Woodpecker is the one to have on your side when you need support. Of course, they make wonderful parents, and equally wonderful friends and partners. Another proverbial feather in the Woodpeckers cap is the tendency to be naturally frugal, resourceful, and organized. In a nurturing environment the Woodpecker is of course caring, devoted, and very romantic. Left to his/her own devices the Woodpecker can be possessive, angry, jealous, and spiteful.
