The AMA released study findings yesterday that stated that there is NO health risk involved with being up to 30 pounds overweight! In fact, by haveing a bit of a "reserve" you are more likely to survive a long term illness, or disaster level event. Sweet vindication for those of us who like their partners with a bit more padding than the fashion, movie and TV worlds would have us believe. (Personally, I have always preferred women who were more like those in Frank Frazetta's paintings.) Now if only these findings would trigger a drop in the insurance rates for those of us who are proud of our being a litle "zaftig."

Some illnesses and medications can cause loss of appetite and the body goes to it's 'fat storage' to stay healthy and to feed off of until something changes.  In the few weeks I was on Vicodin [had my wisdom teeth removed] I lost over 15lbs, total.  At my 'size' thats a lot of weight.  I didn't exactly know I was going to get them out, otherwise I would have put on some 'extra' but, I was kinda blindsided by the sadist [aka dentist] so I did what I had to do. My appetite is starting to come back, a few people have been teasing me with what they have in their freezers - waffles, steaks, that sorta stuff; on Vicodin and other medications, your appetite can be supressed like it did to me, even some illnesses make it so you are so tired you cannot eat. With the amount of weight I lost, it will take some time to get it back to where I am 'healthy' again [Thanksgiving is in a few weeks, that will help out a LOT]. The 30lbs thing, sound a bit excessive to me; the more you have on, the harder your body has to work, and certain medical conditions are made WORSE by being over weight.  I think the study sheds a bit of light on things, but, it also sounds like its telling people to put on eight; some people will use that as an excuse to over indulge.

Well let's hope that people have more sense than to take one study and use it as an excuse to hit the "All You Can Eat BBQ Pit" for lunch and dinner. No, actually (and I should have added this to my inital post) the people who made the announcement said that there is no significant increase in cancer, heart diease or other common health threats, until you pass the (approximate) additional 1/6th to your optimum height/weight ratio.

I had an eye opener a few years ago.  Found the basic research that lead to the height/weight charts to determine if you were obese or not.
The study was done on the SEAL trainees and on Special Forces trainees.

Now, we are talking only one body type here with a common factor of being adrenaline junkies to get into the training.

No wonder over 80% of the population doesn't fit the charts.
