Since you are still finding your way, I strongly urge your to look through the WizDomme Newbie Pack. Don't expect to see flashy graphics, but the advice is time-tested. Please, pay special attention to the safety articles.
I want to encourage you to attend the munch of one of your local BDSM groups but Houston has so many, and I don't know anything about any of them. But attending the munch is a nice low key, low stress way to meet others in the community, to get yourself known, to learn and to be safe.
Caryl's Page has a long list of Houston groups. If you look in the"Meet People" section, she has groups organized by state and by city.
