ModeratorOne -> Gorean Forum? (8/6/2005 10:59:56 PM)

We are considering adding a Gorean forum. There have been some requests as well as some discussion against it. If you consider yourself to be Gorean and have an opinion either way I would love to hear from you. I ask that you please send me a private note on Collarme and not post to this thread since I know some people have very strong feelings about this issue and I do not want a flame war over this.

Thanks,

ModOne

ModeratorOne -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 2:20:33 PM)

Being naughty and bumping my own post. Thank you for all the replies so far, most have been in favor. Anyone else have an opinion they want to share?

Faramir -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 2:49:36 PM)

A Gorean Forum only makes sense if you want to completey segment: a Gorean Forum, a Daddy/little girl forum, and M/s forum, a D/s forum, etc.

Making smaller and smaller pools of conversation dilutes the conversation.

darkinshadows -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 4:08:27 PM)

I think a Gorean forum is a good idea.

I can understand Faramirs point of over-segmenting, but there are certain areas that are so different from the mainstage they do deserve their own little tents.(Please admire my festival terminology[:D]) - Like Poly and Gor.

Just my view.

I am in favor of having a gorean forum. Although I am a new member, I always enjoyed John Norman's sci fi series. I would be interested in how such a forum would work out. Thank you. po.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 4:30:54 PM)

Opening yet another forum will not change the fact that subs will post in Ask a Master/Mistress or visa-versa, Monogamous will post in Polyamorous... non-Gorean will post in a Gorean Forum. If you open a forum based on one modality you might as well be preparred to open one for every modality.

Gorean
Victorian
Old World
Old Guard
New Guard
M/s
D/s
24/7
Weekend Warrior
Stand & Pose

I think you get my point...

You can't please all of the people all of the time but the CM team sure goes to great lengths to please a lot of the people most of the time.

sub4hire -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 6:36:59 PM)

I think we should have one. I for one would have no use for it. There are already a couple of forums here I do not enter. However, those who identify with being gorean also feel left out because there is no such forum for them to be at home with.

So, I'm for it.
If it didn't get used properly you can always delete it later.

Fidelity -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 7:13:03 PM)

I think that you should not only have one,but limit access to it to those who insist on flaming there perpetually. A moderator lock-out shouldn't be all that hard to figure out.

CalliopePurple -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 8:26:51 PM)

If there is one, I think it would need to be watched carefully so that people don't flame too much. I'd probably read it even though I'm not Gorean just because I have the insatiable urge to learn as much as possible about whatever possible (even though I don't post a million and one little questions). 'S why I read the Poly forum even though I'm not.

MasterBenedict -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 10:55:11 PM)

Let's DO it!!
I happen to be a gorean male who is looking for his kajira, so I believe it would be GREAT!

RavenofPK -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/7/2005 11:14:38 PM)

Greetings,

I, too, am all for it. Perhaps it will help to educate the mass ignorance that seems to run rampant here.

Mod One,

Instead of having a forum on every subject, isn't this why we have the chat rooms with all of these subjects and more?

I've noticed that many people with only have a few forums that they go to. When the get bored of reading them due to reading them all, that's when they might hop onto another forum. I myself will normally click forums in the following order:

1. General Disscussion
2. Ask a Master
3. Heath and Safety
4. Off topic
5. Humor.
6. Creative Writtings
and then lurk about if and when I have time and the day is boring.

Any how, there is no real reason to deny a Gorean forum. I just hope it wouldn't create more diversity and less unity in our discussions.

MrThorns -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/8/2005 6:10:21 AM)

I think a gorean forum would be a good addition. There seems to be a growing number of people with a specific interest in the gorean way of life.

happypervert -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/8/2005 7:00:20 AM)

I think there are other topics that get discussed more often than gor. So if you really want to address the most popular topics why not start these forums too:
1. What's the difference between a sub and a slave?
2. Why don't they return my e-mail?
3. Abuse abuse abuse
4. Oh brothers and sisters in the lifestyle let's all hug and sing kumbaya
5. Other kinks: poo, foot worship, and gor

Touche'

Please add

"How to be a Drama King/Queen in 100 words or less"

"Posting emotional rants and then getting upset because people don't respond the way I want them to" (Although, that could tie in with the first topic)

"Why doesn't my dominant use me like I want him to?" (hmm..also fits with item 1.)

I still think Gor would be a good forum. It has less to do with the popularity of subjects and more to do with the fact that some people really live their lives according to some of the guidlines that can be found in the books. (Perhaps we could actually make it about r/t Gor...versus a lot of the online crap that has assisted in giving Goreans a bad rep)

Faramir -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/8/2005 7:59:02 AM)

There is no doubt that people into Gor would like, prefer and enjoy a Gor specific forum. But it would dilute the content pool, and dilution of content isn't what makes a network community more active and valuable.

Taking a flawed poll, has anyone ever met a RT gore person? I haven't. I don't doubt they exist somewhere I've just never come across one.

Anyone on CM RT gore?

I know two separate Gor households that are real time.

I don't see how creating a new forum that is gorean specific would be any less valuable than sections labeled "Ask a Master" or "Ask a submissive". There have been a lot of inqueries about Gor in various other forums and I think that a lot of those questions would be best addressed in a forum that is designed for gorean Q&A.

I don't see the content being diluted simply because that a new section is created. It's just seems like a way to keep things somewhat organized. I mean, just because something is posted in "Ask a submissive" doesn't mean that I won't read it or contribute a comment or two.

Faramir -> RE: Gorean Forum? (8/8/2005 10:08:16 AM)

Thorns, there is a balance between functonality and diffusion.

One forum would be concentrated, but unweildy.

A forum for every variation is extremely efficient if you have specialized interests, but so diffuse as to have no cross-polination.

Of course the creation of a new forum dilutes the contnet - the question is whether the gain in efficacy merits the dilution.

Not Gorean myself but yes I do know several Gorean families. Most of the ones that I know are poly. They have regular monthly get togethers, I believe they call them Gorean Tavern nights, that are a dinner where protocol is at a higher standard. I should qualify that by saying that I am only going by what I am told of those events as I have never attended one. They also hold "classes" at times to practice the proper way of serving, discuss their way of life and I am assuming also as a means of socializing.

edited to add that none of the Gorean folks that I know are much different than anyone else in the lifestyle except that the one thing that seems to stand out about them, at least in my perception, is that they generally operate at a bit higher level of protocol. They are not trying to recreate Gor here on earth, it seems that they have just adopted the principles that Gor seems to be based on. Again, I am no expert and have never even read the books, so only going by what they have shared with me.
