A worldwide hops shortage will make stouts, ales and other specialty microbrews more pricy in coming months.

A triple whammy of bad weather in Europe, an increase in the price of barley and a decrease in hops production in the U.S. has lead to a price increase of 20 percent for the most widely grown varieties, to 80 percent for specialty hops. The shortage is particularly hitting microbreweries, since they use more hops than major brewers.

There is always wine.

There is a glut of wine on the world market and many proces are at an all time low.

The hops fields all around here are infested with a nasty little mushroom that does strange things to peoples' heads. Or so I've been told...

But back on topic,  [sm=news.gif]the hops fields are all disapearing, and Walmarts and cookie cutter subdivisions are taking their place, even in what were very remote places only a few short years ago

I bitch about high gas prices.. and I only buy wine.. (not the swill stuff anyways) so I am good there.. now lets break those rat bastards setting the gas prices so damn high... and I will be happy.

There's always Rum and Diesel. I found a 750 ml bottle of Private Stock for only $12. 50 last friday.

With booze this cheap, no wonder why we have so many alcoholics. The best way I kept myself from having to attend AA meetings was for me to only buy expensive popular name brands and Imports. It makes it where I can't afford to be an alcoholic.

When it comes to beer, I normally stick to Guinness Extra Stout. The dark brew is to filling for me to want more than a pint over and over.

I don't drink an I don't smoke; I drive a bit, but I have cut that down as much as possible.  I even started walking more, sucks with the polution and my asthma, but I live a healthy life, no alcohol or cigies for THIS body; yuck. They can raise the price of alcohol and cigies all they want; leave our gas and oil prices alone, people will freeze to death, no one has died from lack of cigies or alcohol.

You like you sugar don't you ? You know it is killing you, and it is creating a burden on society. How's about we tax sugar, the BIGGEST killer in the US. Savor that ten dollar candy bar cause you know what, I am going to get on this.

Refined sugar is more poisonous than cigarette smoke, it is worse even than refined salt that has the same shit in it that says "do not eat" like when you buy a new camera or something.

I declatre war on sugar, like others have on cigarettes. Just wait until I get going. You'll see. I love my mounds rich and coconut too, la la la and only $50 too..........

Humans have been drinking beer thousands of years before the discovery of hops, damnit we can do it again. Theres gotta be a creative little brewer somewhere who has the idea of going really, really, really old school.

One always has to pay a premium for good beer but its worth it. If you can keep tap beer longer than a couple of weeks at most you're drinking drain water anyway. Hops are for taste and also help preserve the beer but are not essential for beer making, the large brewries have been messing about with traditional beer brewing for decades and might as well add a few more chemicals and processes for the taste like they do now and keep the price down. People who drink beer just to get out of their skulls won't notice the difference.

Diesel is actually above gas in some areas... guy i know on another board was complaining that it was $3.70 out by him.

A current issue in the UK is that supermarkets are selling lager for 22pence a can. (That's about 45 cents in US$). It's a loss leader but once one chain does it, they all have to do it. So if a kid looks 18, they can get smashed for a couple of quid.

Drinks on me, what's your poison?
