littlesarbonn -> Doing my best to sell the bdsm community to the locals (11/13/2007 10:35:55 PM)

This past weekend I was at a national debate tournament, and one of the debate topics that came up was "In this instance, torture is justified." So, realizing that most affirmative cases would require our teams to debate for torture against prisoners, I proposed an alternative affirmative case in which we defined "this instance" as a consentual S/M session between a dominant woman and a male submissive. Then we ran the topic on female sexual liberty to put the PC burden on the negative teams.

I was shocked at how well vanillas picked up on the topic and defended the bdsm almost to the point of no return. And most of our teams won their cases.

So, even though I'm not really a strong part of the community any more these days, I at least did my part to push us into the mainstream in a positive way. That's gotta count for something.

He dips,
yep sarbonn! No-one likes to lose a debate and it's amazing how One can logically argue if they take away emotive involvement!   You gave them all something to think about.

(Does that mean I should pat "good" littlesarbonn's head?)

When you say pat his head define "head"

Perhaps you could list the points made during the debates?  Let people know what worked well, what points depended on who presented or how, and which things were not beneficial.  Basically tell us to stress X, downplay Y and be careful with Z.  I'm sure it could be useful to those who live in more conservative areas as they try to find munch space or meeting space and in fighting zoning laws to create safe play spaces.  Especially with the zoning boards, since the granting or denial of a permit or variance can hinge an effective, logical debate.  Sort of a quick and dirty (bad pun intended) PR for dummies kit.  [;)]
