Santas in Sydney, Australia have been instructed not to say "ho, ho, ho" because some women might be offended, as "ho" is American slang for prostitute.  They have been instructed to say "ha, ha, ha" instead.

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

Just when you think that political correctness can't get any more ridiculous, it does.

I'd really like to know what idiot thought of this?  It's bad enough that Christmas decorations and stuff start appearing around here before Labor Day......that nativity scenes can't be put in public places too close to governemnt offices.....that people have to wish others "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".  Santa is the last bastion of Christmas that we had!  This is really a sad state of affairs when they take that much away.  Obviously, someone has wa-a-a-a-a-a-a-y too much time on their hands!

I think it's ridiculous.

I also think that if some whiney ass .... uptight individuals have THAT much time on their hands to think that Santa saying HO HO HO is something that is offending women.... they need to get out of the house and find a fuckin' hobby.

Good Grief *rolls my eyes*

HO! HO! HO!

I think Australia needs to listen to the sound advice given by Chopper Reid and harden the fuck up!

My husband told me about that, this morning, and I thought he was pulling my leg. I could not imagine anything so silly could be true. How wrong I was.

Santa has been saying Ho Ho Ho for many years before Ghetto-Speak decided to abbreviate the word "whore" to make the gangsta's sound tougher and cooler. Because so much merchandise is printed with pictures of Santa and the text of "Ho ho ho", and no one is going to suggest that all of these little place mats and christmas ornaments and wrapping papers be outlawed, I think it is best to let the human Santas continue saying their traditional line.

Incidentally, "ho ho ho!" sounds like a jolly expression of happiness and good will. "Ha ha ha!" sounds like an expression of contempt and derision.......and in this case, that would be very well justified, in consideration of the dimwits who proposed the change. I would cast my vote to continue with the tradtional Santa dialogue, and if anyone is offended by "ho", then perhaps she should stop charging for pussy.

Umm...'ha' can refer to the edge of a sword in Japanese.  Maybe they'll think Santa's gone Samurai-happy and wants to hack people up.

Hmm.  Samurai Santa.  That's a disconcerting thought...

glad to see others are just as well "vocal" about this whole Santa thing.i'd love to see a Santa toting a sword.hell i'd be one of the damned elves picking up stuff behind him.

this is just getting out of hand since all of this Don Imus stuff, then Dog the Bounty Hunter, now people wanting to take away something that makes others happy just because they can't deal with the phrasing of Ho,Ho,Ho!

and here i thought the Hilary Clinton nutcracker i saw was funny.sorry but i can't help but laugh about this

nice thing about australia is that a lot of the local councils do the whole christmas nativity thing. and there's a HUGE real life nativity procession in sydney in particular every christmas season. and christmas carols in the park (or domaine or whatever big park that will hold thousands of people - they actually DO sing traditional christian christmas songs. it IS after all, the general reason for the season.
