Have you checked BMEZine.com? That's usually a good source of info on everything from skin prep to healing on temp. to perm. body mods. If you haven't got a membership and you want to start doing heavy medical play, BME is an excellent resource.
KinkyMedical.net sells kits with everything you need for saline play. Keep it subcutaneous (not deeper into the tissue) and fewer problems are likely to develop. Read up on it on BME, though, too.
Halfway down this page http://bondage.com/topic_id/121625/forums/topic.html there's a post by "satori" detailing the procedure. That's pretty close to my experience with saline. I prefer suspended bags of saline when I can get them.
