Ah heperin I think the thinner is..Is she home from hospital?  I ask because I got pneumonia post surgery several years ago and although I was not to aware at the time it turned out to be a very big deal health wise.  And it was really tough emotionally - felt very ungrounded and just odd.  It took almost a year for me to fully recover.  They returned me to the hospital for 3 weeks to treat the pneumonia with IV's and breathing treatments etc.  But then pneumonia can be not nearly so severe as was mine - Mom had it this year and managed at home fine and once antibiotics started she was better in 2-3 weeks and she never had a fever.  Send my well wishes to her will ya? And the shirt thing is nice.

Well as it so happens, she's also a nurse, and a stubborn one when it comes to her own health.   Thankfully, she's a fast healer and until her back injury [which precipitated this whole mess] was in perfect health.  She's resting at home, giving herself breathing treatments and resting only because I ordered her to.

Now, if she is a good girl and listens, and gets the rest she needs, and takes her anitbiotics, then she may recover quickly.  I'm estimating that she should be here next weekend, or the weekend after, in part because of how quickly she does heal, and in part because I know she's stubborn enough to fight it off.  She has the fever, which already seems to be receding.

I'll pass your well-wishes on, and thank you for that.

I am glad I got the juices flowing and now I know that they will not stop until you have come up with nothing short of perfection for her..... BTW I really like the idea of making her a pillow case or giving her your shirt, it means a lot to those of us who cannot be with our partners.....

Oh this is easy - you have to go to her if she can't come to you.  Show up. *smiles*. I know may be rather difficult but still it would be the best.

Ocilla,
gmta!  I was going to suggest the exact same thing..  If it were me, that would truly be the ONE thing I would wish for on our anniversary.. Or any other day for that matter!

If it weren't for work, I'd love to.  Unfortunately, I have achieved a status within the hierarchy where the buggers won't give me more than two days in a row off.  I took two days in anticipation of our anniversary - the Tuesday for the anniversary, the day after to enjoy the day before!   Now they won't let me switch the days up, and are insisting on two weeks warning to change my days off because "they need me"...

Buggers.  If the job were casual I'd toss it off and go to her, but in her condition I'll be the primary income for a while, so no playing cowboy.   I blame my predilection for forethought, and the damn responsibility factor that so often kills romantic opportunities!

*sighs* [/rant]

Can you tell I miss her?

Yup, the pneumonia is the culprit, ocilla.  Figures; the girl braves multiple surgeries to her spine and it's the blood thinners they have to use in the after-treatment that make her ill. *sighs*

Her doctor told her the pneumonia had settled deep enough in her chest that she needed bedrest for a while longer.  She called me this morning at work, and she tried to hide it, but I could tell she'd been crying pretty hard.  Ever since I've been a bit distracted, trying to think of alternatives and knowing none of them were practical.  It was actually while posting in another thread that I decided to start this one.

Hmm.  I've only ever sung for her twice.  Perhaps a recording of one of her favourite songs [other than the classical, she has a bachelor's in vocal and we share a number of musical tastes in common, such as Rachmaninoff - ever watch 'Somewhere In Time'?].

Thanks, ocilla! *HUGS*

Somewhere in Time is one of my favorite movies of all time.. I sob like a baby everytime I see it..

If someone sang for me for my anniversary or birthday..(not a serenade mind you, more of a lullaby while slow dancing or laying down stroking my hair) .I don't know if there is anything any man could do for me that would mean more to me than that..

Well, the writing is begun.  One poem so far, though I should write a few more and see which of them turns out best.

Shopping is on the "To Do" list Monday; tomorrow night I think I shall work on the aforementioned pillow case.

Who says the celebration can only be just one day? My grandmother used to joke about having a birthday season, and you might want to consider following suit. Think of November 20th as the start of a multiday festival that ends with her arrival. You could write her a wonderful letter or (if you feel inspired) poem and send a sentence or line a day.

You might be able to send flowers without a credit card by going to a local florist and paying them in cash. They can then arrange delivwery through FTD or Interflora.

Happy anniversary!

Hmm.  Well, there is a local florist who knows me well, and it can't hurt to try.  Good point, dcnovice; I'll tack that onto tomorrow's list.   And thank you for the idea!

It's worked for me. I've gone through periods of either not having cards or having them at their modest limits, and I've still been able to send flowers.

I love the idea, but I'm not sure bear could do a good impersonation of me.

Well, like anything else in life...if all else fails, do what you can.   Speaking of which, the pillowcase is now done and is pulled over her pillow in our bedroom...

We don't have that, unfortunately, in Ontario; or if we do I'm unaware of it.  Thank you for the thought, though, it's very much appreciated.

Continuing with my something-a-day idea, how bout taking a picture of the pillowcase, using Photoshop or whatever to carve it into pieces, and e-mail her a different piece each day?

I like the idea of a few lovely things and sentiments for the special day and then dribbles of something fun to make the wait more playful and sweet.  On the tapes my old friend used to send me he would capture certain parts of his day that we might have been likely to share.  He also recorded walks and his encounters on those walks in Amsterdam, San Fran, and New Orleans...him talking up a street musician, walking by a play or school ground and chatting with the kids,  or capturing a conversation with the chef at my favorite Chinese place...stuff like that....they are tapes that I cherish even today over 10 years later - symphonies of sound with hardly any music but that put me right there with him in that moment every single time I listen to them.  Thank goodness my old friend is a successful musician so he comes through town on tour a few times a year and I get out to visit him on the West Coast every other year or so.  Our significant others through the years are always a little confused but they know we've a special soul connection and at times they will even come to either of us for interpretations etc. lol...

sigh - with all this reminiscing I'm now longing for a dose of him.

Well, thanks to an inadvertent inspiration from bear, I had abdi sign on today [she was on restriction, I chose to lift the restriction] and read through this entire thread.  She was bawling by the time she was done, as I'm sure you can imagine  and asked to post a reply - which is how we discovered there's a problem with her account.   Hopefully that can be resolved...

In the meantime, she's asked me to post her reply, since she can't.  Before I do, I'll post my own general response - prerogative of the Boss, ya know.

**************************

To A/all of you who offered your well wishes and thoughts, thank Y/you very much!  To say this past year has been an easy one for me would be a bald-faced lie; but then, I'm not one for drama or commiseration, which is why I rarely post anything here about my mundane life until it's pertinent.

There's been a small series of bright spots throughout, however, and the brightest of those was finding my girl abdi.  Her cheerful approach to life starkly contrasts my occasions bouts of cynicism.  She is beautiful, intelligent, subtle, witty, eager, honest, and adorable.  Adorable was my first adjective for her; she wasn't fond of it until I explained that adorable, to me, meant innocent, gentle, playful, and downright lovable, and to me, that's sexy.  When she realized I equated it with sexy in her case, she was all for 'adorable'.

She balances me, and makes me a better person than I am.  That why, after she earned her collar, I proposed.  I'd have to be a blithering idiot to let a girl like her get away.

So to jadedserendipity, cuffnspankme, osocurious, divi, beargonewild, ocilla, BossyShoeBitch, Yedi, chellekitty, and dcnovice, thank Y/you.   Talking with me through this thread gave me the opportunity to express my feelings and thoughts for my girl, and gave me some handy ideas, to boot.  I suspect showing her this thread, and how I've been thinking of her even with the little time we've had recently [work has been bonkers] meant more to her than anything else...although she's thrilled about the shirt and the pillowcase.   She hasn't seen the poem yet, but then it's not midnight yet!  There's time enough.

Enough of my mushy stuff.  I should post her mushy stuff now.  I'll make it a separate post, this one's running on as is...
