Regarding all the comments about trust, communication, authority, yes, I certainly agree they are vital. I was looking at the question more as, what gets won over first. I think my mind can be won over, and thus 'given', even before real trust. Flirtation is very intellectual for me. If they can use wit to get me eating out of the palm of their hand, get me curious and intrigued, trying to impress them, and opening my mind to them and what they want, that is how my mind is won. I don't have to trust them yet at that point, or have that important relationship style communication. Though, those things must come before I surrender any authority.
