My guess is it is true. Suicide and mental illness rates are high for ex combatants in every country. War fucks up the mind, it is a known fact and that makes it even more criminal when politicians start illegal wars for no other reason than making money for the people who bought them.

In addition to suicides, there are rapes, domestic violence, homelessness, mental illness, and a host of other effects.  i still feel there's a draft in this country's future, and i worry about my nephew....don't think we're gonna start drafting females quite yet.

well that and look at how people here view the conscientious objector.   Men often commit suicide when they are forced to perform atrocities that go against their conscience.   Typically war and the act of killing a combatant does not have those effects at least not to that degree.  However if a soldier comes to realize that what he is doing violates not only himself and his own values but the geneva convention etc these kinds of actions are frankly expected.

Only a complete fool would think that we have killed nearly 1 million "alqaeda" in iraq but many cant see past that big red white and blue flag in front of the face long enough to realize that america used to stand for justice.

AH HA!!!!!!

But the casualties in Iraq are down due to the surge!!!!!!!  Pay no attention to these ancillary things that have no bearing on the issues.
