Do you ever find that the more creative screen name the Dom or Sub has. The more fake they are or do you find just the opposite. i found the ones with the simple screen names the nicest.

camille65 -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 7:30:00 PM)

To me a nick means very little. I really love creative nicks and have made friends with boring nicks (heh like my nick). I ran a chat room for several years & I noticed that those with blatantly sexual names were usually looked at as trolls and yes some were. But after taking the time to talk to them I changed my view. I found most of them to be upfront and honest, they simply didn't care about networking with the 'regs'.Case in point here, azzmaster gave me wonderful advice and support. Under his facade he had some amazing things to give.

petdave -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 7:52:36 PM)

i always wonder why people decide to change screen names
(look! It's a camille/jenny! [:-])
i figure anybody with "69" in their screen name is either in high school or an idiot (JerseyKrissi69 gets a pass)
i'm still trying to figure out what a "RumpusParable" is, but i like the sound of it
Aside from that, i don't pay a lot of attention to screen names.
Question- if you can quantify the fakeness of a person, can you also quantify the sincerity of a pumpkin patch? i've never been able to figure that out, either.

wisteriaV -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 7:55:25 PM)

My nick on CM before Master collared me was something earthy and nature based rayn( rain). Once Master collared me he renamed me wisteria. Wisteria is a climbing vine with strong deep roots and delicate scenting flowers of purple, voilet, pink or white. The wisteria oil is woodys yet light in scent. Its a favorite plant and scent of Masters as well. I think the generalization of simple screen names being nicer is like saying all men are good doms..neither is  valid or true to me.

i am in total agreement with what wisteria said...case in point...."angel" was a nickname that Sir gave me when we were dating as a vanilla couple. so now its Michaelsangel because of His name and the fact that i am now his sub(or rather have been for the better part of 5 years).... pretty simplistic but  Sir says it suits me.(actually it was either that or SrMichaelsrose) However i have met people in other chat venues with really strange nicks or screen names and they turned out to be some of the coolest people!

hisannabelle -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 8:24:08 PM)

greetings southernhart,

i try not to read too much into nicknames. i really like creative ones, and i tend to be a bit more wary of people with overly sexual nicknames, or with masterdomgrandpoobahgodlord names. i don't care much for "sub" or "subby/subbie" in a nickname because i don't like to shorten "submissive" - sometimes i'll use sub in a post because it's convenient, but subby/subbie drives me up the freakin' wall and i can't imagine who would want to call themselves that ;) for the most part i don't think too much about it though.

my nick is a pet name he occasionally calls me...it's not the nickname he normally calls me (that one is tied to some of my work/profile sites so i don't use it here) but he sometimes uses "annabelle" playfully. it's funny, though - in using it here i've come to sort of think of myself as annabelle (i do like the name) and now when people on other forums i post on have it as their nick it makes me feel really awkward, hehehe.

respectfully,
annabelle.

EvilGenie -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 8:45:44 PM)

It seems that the more offensive nicks are the ones I notice the most though something not offensive and out of the ordinary will catch my eye. It may catch my eye but only in so far as me thinking ''wow that's a cool ID.''

I first came to CM with an entirely different ID. One night I dipped into a chatroom and saw someone who I had always known to be a Dominant suddenly switch and get into the pit. This meant he was offering himself up to play. Me thinking he was joking claimed him and we had a great time of it. Everyone was shocked until we took a look at his profile and it said Switch. From what I gather he had never switched in that particular room. I am not much for chatrooms and actually haven't been into once since. During our conversation I had said to him ''hmmm what should I do now?'' He replied with ''You're like an Evil Genie, I don't know what to ask for.''  I, and others, liked it so much that it stuck so I went and did up a new profile in September.

I tend though to put more stock into what the profile in front of me says, doesn't say or butchers than a screen name. I think fake/possibly real can be spotted more so in the writing, what I read of it, than can be in the ID someone chooses. I also have to agree on the subbie thing! I always spell out submissive and Dominant. mine/husband uses my first name.

Happy Holiday to those Celebrating!

liminalRapture -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 8:50:06 PM)

I changed mine a couple of times.  I used to have a 'lady' in my nick, and then the amount of men who thought I must be a Dom because of the 'lady' and either wanted me to top them or spent time lecturing me.  Then I had a pretty political nick for a while, but after living with someone for a year (and let's be honest, the 2006 election--yeah!) I realized I'm not defining myself by my political work as much as i used to.

Mine is pretentious, I know.  But liminal has become one of my two favorite words--that sense of those moments that define categorization, those place in between the categories that don't fit.  It is SO what I yearn for.  And, this probably sounds odd, but when I'm totally out there with being into big words, then I'm a much nicer person.  I can't play dumb, but I also don't have anything to prove.  I can just relax.

wow - what an opening statement.  just because Dom and submissive have a creative name doesn't automatically classify them as fake.  sheeeeeesh if that was the case, most of us would be (according to your statement) fakes and not twue like you.

my name is taken as part of Daddy's nickname bigsambaman (He loves to dance the Samba while listening to Brazillian music).  before my SO deleted his CM acct, he was samthespook.

trusting -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 9:46:02 PM)

the only thing that a nickname does for me is show me just a hint of who they are...

i normally respond to all messages no matter the name. well, unless they are just blunty stating that they seek something that does not interest me! but, i will admit that the nickname is my 'first impression' of this person.

i suppose the name they choose says a lot about them...

peppermint -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 10:05:10 PM)

Screen names, creativity, and fake have little to do with one another.  Why shouldn't someone into BDSM be creative?  That does not mean that someone who pretends to be into BDSM can not also be creative.

Usually the name i want is already taken...so...i keep trying names till one actually works.

temptressofsouls -> RE: Creative profile names (11/20/2007 10:49:00 PM)

If I had a dollar for everytime someone thought i was Domme....since when cant subs be tempting, too?

InkedMaster -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 3:02:12 AM)

I took my screen name cause I think it's pretty self explanatory and describes me, besides ASSHOLE was already taken...dammit!

Rushemery -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 3:25:42 AM)

I think a screen name helps people show a little into their mind set or who they think they are. I use my HS nickname here and elsewhere so that when people I know come across it they know who I am as well as my pic, not everyone can do that and it may in fact bite me in the azz someday but also when I walk into a bar its the name that gets yelled out by people who know me and I like that

dawntreader -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 7:06:13 AM)

i actually put quite a bit of stock into people's screen names as i do believe it is a glimpse of their personality and at the very least, the persona they wish to display.

mine has alot of symbolism encompassing all facets of my life, not just here. There are many names i see here that are very specific to a forum such as CM and i also think to what they hope to attract. i personally an not attracted to screen names that such as "domeplease"  or  "Masterofyourass" type names.

But yes, i do get a first impression by people's screen names...most definitely~

Jeffff -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 9:37:19 AM)

I  don't pay allot of attention to nic's. Which is kinda apparent by my own..lol. But it does sum me up nicely..:)

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 2:29:09 PM)

I dunno about creative- mine's pretty darn witty and full of linguistic, proverbial, and cultural amusement.

Now the trite "need to stamp just how domly I am on everything" sort of name, yeah, those tend to be the wankers.

Kellendra -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 4:06:11 PM)

Never really pays much attention to someones's profile name..unless it's something like "Big C0ck 4u!" or something equally as interesting....and then I sit up and really pay attention.....
Just kidding...*cough, cough*

As someone has already said, often names you want are already taken, and it can take ages trying to think of something that you don't have to add a number to (sub23400 and the like), so generally I try never judge a book by it's um...name, because soon as you hang a judgement on someone you are possibly likely to be wrong.
Of course sometimes you are also right but I prefer to let the person do the talking, rather than some id they came up with on the spur of the moment in the excitement of joining cm.

DomMeinCT -> RE: Creative profile names (11/21/2007 9:55:16 PM)

I don't pay too much attention to a username unless it describes something that I am NOT seeking or is particularly silly in terms of portraying the person as The Domliest Dom.

As for my own, I picked it because it rhymed and amused me, though I can't believe how many responses I get thinking I'm a Domme.

Ya know? I just had to go and see. Yes, indeed, 'asshole' is not available. I tried. *chuckle* But, also, no profiles pop up for it under a username search, either. Perhaps they took it off the choice list?
