Shawn1066 -> Nightmares? (11/21/2007 8:25:57 AM)

Apparently, without knowing, I kept my Owner up most of the night with rather severe nightmares.  I didn't even remember some of them until a little later today.  While on the phone with her during her break at work(I'm housewife-ing :-p), she was quick to note that I've had 3 or 4 other nightmares after some of our more intense scening.  Last night was also a rather intense scene that was absolutely made me melt.  It's not entirely unlikely that all of the stuff that goes into a scene could swirl together in the subconscious and cause nightmares...

My Question:

Have you experienced anything similar to this in your past?

ownedgirlie -> RE: Nightmares? (11/21/2007 9:13:43 AM)

Well, I've had recurring nightmares since I was little, and often times I would wake my family up in the middle of the night screaming holy terror, without even realizing it.

My nightmares followed me into adulthood, and became worse and worse - really morbid and gross and extreme.  I don't attribute mine to my slavery or what he does to me, though.  Mine were attributed more to the abuse from my past.   He has worked me through them; I have had just one of those awful recurring nightmares in the past two years.  I have had other bad dreams, though, but they don't freak me out so much anymore.

I do not live with him, but I've woken up in the middle of the night from an awful dream, only to turn to my laptop and shoot him an IM, only to suddenly receive one from him asking "What's up?"  It's spookily cool :)

I have only had yummy erotic dreams having to do with my submission.

I did have a nightmare last night that woke me up though...I dreamt I was sitting on a couch devouring a box of Chicken n a Biscuit crackers with my mother in law. After we finished the box, I read the nutrition label and it said one cracker had 22 grams of fat....AAAAAAAAaaaahhhh! I don't even like those nasty crackers!

My nightmare is usually that we run out of time.  Is it possible something you have done, although it's enjoyable is touching on some previous trauma?

Nope, not at all actually.  I'm of the opinion that it's perhaps an aftereffect of all the energy that generally gets spent in scenes requiring a decent bit of masochism.  Or, perhaps it's because I went to bed still a bit wet from my bath... Or, even more likely...

Perhaps there's no connection at all. :-p

Just checking, all my nightmares personally are about past trauma.  After an intense scene I'm usually flying high for at least 24 hours and it's actually hard to sleep even if it wore me out.  But you're not me.  So can't help you, sorry [:(]

I don't normally solicit very much physical pain, and you haven't described your specific experience so I won't assume pain it was part of it.  But I've served women who enjoyed S&M and I've had nightmares after these types of activities on a couple of occasions.  I've attributed them to the adrenaline that was produced more then any of the psychological implications of the experience.

It's convenient to assume that the nightmares come from the details of the scene but, like spicy foods causing bad dreams, the link isn't always so clear.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Nightmares? (11/21/2007 3:42:10 PM)

Not from scenes but if we have arguments before bed I am more likely to have bad dreams of him leaving me or abandoning me. Like one night he and I argued about something and then topic turned to a play party we went to and he said he would never do anything at a party witho ut my permission, I said i know that I wouldn't ask you to take me if I thought other wise.

Well that night came a really bad nightmare of us arguing and him not forgiving me and getting another girl to rub my face into the argument with.

Being a submissive in a scene where the two Doms are George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld comes to mind.

azropedntied -> RE: Nightmares? (11/22/2007 7:08:43 PM)

shawn> there are many reasons for dreams and nitemares one good point to either is your deep rem sleeping  as you can not go in a dream state until you hit the REM cycle .It would be tough for me to tell you exactly why or what your dream s  mean as i dont have the details but you can look up their meanings and interpitations on your own online .
This also may be a time where a scene or exchange has not been fully prossesed or worked through .Or a combination of scene pile up like a blocked freeway and your try'n to deal with it through your subconsious .I have had exchanges between myself and A Mistress thats did not affect me until days or a week later post scene .Communicate with your partner  and look with in yourself  to help find the answers and oddly enough when the  answer does come to you its like a light just turned on to reveal what your seeking .
Best wishes on your journey .

bipolarber -> RE: Nightmares? (11/22/2007 7:22:43 PM)

I've always tried to keep a running track on my dreams. Even from a young age, I was blessed/cursed with extremely vivid, "extreme" dreams. When I was a little kid, even before hitting puberty, I had nightmares that H.P. Lovecraft would have envied. Hideous landscapes filled with creatures that defied description. As I grew older, the dreams changed, and I found myself having dreams about ancient Rome: specifically, about living and bein a slave in the ancient city of Herculaneum. (I was a young boy who was a slave to an older couple who ran a business painting political slogans on the walls. At night, I would be offered up to amuse their guests.) Then, after getting out of high school, I began having the weird, "shifted reality" dreams that I am still having to this day. They seem absolutely normal, like I am awake, but the reality of the night time world seems somewhat different... more of a wish fulfillment universe, if you like.

Oddly, although I sometimes scene pretty heavily, they don't seem to impact my dreams much at all. (Other than sleeping a little more heavily, due to exhaustion.)

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Nightmares? (11/22/2007 9:39:30 PM)

I talk in my sleep a lot, and I have woken up entire households yelling in my sleep.  I never remember my dreams, but I apparently do this quite often.  I punched the headboard on my bed so hard one night during sleep, that I woke myself up and had a sore hand for weeks.  I think nightmares tend to happen more when you are under stress or have experienced a emotionally unsettling experience.  I'm sure you enjoyed your experiences, but they are like you said...intense.  I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless you are losing sleep because of it.  I don't put a whole lot of stock into the dreams mean something theory.  I know they are a result of emotions and sub-concious thoughts, but I don't read in to them that much.

fsub4use -> RE: Nightmares? (11/22/2007 10:38:45 PM)

the purpose of our dreams is to process regular things, day to day things.  Most dreams are in fact, rather mundane.  The fact that your dreams revolve around scening and your BDSM life shows that it is a routine part of your life - it isnt necessarily anything beyond that.  i would say that your dreams are not necessarily NIGHTMARES, they may just be a type of remembering and thinking through your scene.  If you cry or scream in scene, it would not be uncommon to do that in your dreams as well.  If they dont bother you, they are  not an issue.

From your post, it seems that the dreams themselves dont seem to be a problem for you since you dont generally remember them - that means your sleep stays in a deep REM state.  That is the good thing... We only remember our dreams if we actually wake up at least a little bit.  The bad thing about your dreams is that they keep your owner up... does that bother your owner?  if not, well, ok... if it does, perhaps you need to change your sleep schedule somewhat, write or draw after scene to lessen the process needed, lighten the scene, etc.... there are a myriad of possibilities.

But your original question was does this happen to others?  in a word, yes.  i tend to not worry about them, though.  If it interferes with my day to day life, it is something to worry about.  If not, i fully trust my subconcious to let me know if i need to deal with something.

i wish this for you.

It's really fucked up that you dreamed about a cracker with 22 grams of fat :\ I blame the media :)

Einzelganger -> RE: Nightmares? (11/23/2007 12:29:16 AM)

The only time I've had nightmares afterward was following a scene that...well, went bad, for lack of a better term.  I actually still have nightmares about that once in a while.  I don't believe I've ever had any nightmares about any other scenes, though...just that one.

I still have 'dream scenes' with this 'Mystery Mistress' now and then, though; they usually don't make a whole lot of sense (as dreams rarely do), but they beat nightmares any day.

wisteriaV -> RE: Nightmares? (11/23/2007 5:53:49 AM)

I have nightmares, but they have nothing to do with scening. Master just holds me and we talk it out.

DMFParadox -> RE: Nightmares? (11/23/2007 6:55:59 AM)

A nightmare about a fattening cracker?  pungasms...

Version A: The "I'm A Cracker" With The Nutrition Label '22 Grams of Protein...'
Version B: New Butt Crackers!  22 grams of slimy fat packed into a teeny wafer!  They go straight to your hips!
Version C: Chicken&Biscuit Triscuits--All the calories, none of the flavor
Version D: You get the idea...

chellekitty -> RE: Nightmares? (11/23/2007 7:42:48 AM)

if it is after more intense scening, could it possibly be from endorphin drop? kind of like a drug (in this case, your brains natural morphine) withdrawl induced nightmare?
