Hi. I am cooking Thanksgiven dinner for 1 or 2. I decided to use my crockpot- a first for me. -ok- how do I proceed- ? I would like to have things ready so tommorrow morning I simply place the bowl in the pota nd turn it on.

3 lbs of chicken breast with bone.
white potatos.
red onion.

maybe marinade with red wine.

Also- I am trying out a nifty bread machine I bought at a thrift store. I bought a mix to make sour dough bread- also unbleached flour a bunch of yeast- fully expecting to goof up the 1st batch.

In a way my plan is ingenious. The aroma of good food all day long... and achieable too.

ok- can i peel the potatos the night before??

Ummm, I have done it before it is a little weird to achieve because you are crock potting the entire meal and so the potatoes will be very very mushy........ If you do soak them overnight in water with some salt to keep them from browning with oxidation..... I hope it all turns out yummy!!

When I cook a pot roast, I put it all on to cook at the same time, but I like the potatoes to be tender. Some say put meat in first, then after an hour or so, add the veggies, adding carrots first, then potatoes, then onions (for example), because the thing that takes the longest to cook should go in first. But with chicken breasts, those are not thick, dense cuts of meat, so I don't think it would cause much risk of your veggies overcooking if you put it all on at the same time, as the recipe calls for.
