my spirituality is deeply entwined with my BDSM ... and yes i believe in God though it may not be your God. if someone was really fairly fundamentalist Christian i think they could reconcile it so long it was always the man who was the Dom and the sub was always a woman, that there was no oral/anal, the pair was strictly monogamous.. that would be in a religion that did not ban non-procreative sex acts. OK you could work it out that the spankings were just the Head of Household disciplining the dependent charges and did not have a sexual element (yeah -- ok -- sure). Otherwise any spanking, etc. would have to lead to procreative sex, but if so you would be ok.

I prefer the God of my understanding...
:)

I'm not sure if you meant to imply this or not, but there is no mention of oral sex being prohibited in the bible at all.

EDIT: Don't mean to throw that out and run, but I am signing off for the long weekend anyone can PM me if they have questions, and I will respond next week....Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

i suppose it would have to do with who you partner with, from my understanding of some religion, ... i think also that anything you do that you believe that is wrong to do,  you should probably not do, it injures your spirit. but i also know that the more wrong it is, the more pleasure some take in doing it.

NO.

Mentally ill people- including those that believe in unicorns, lucky pennies, god, alien lizard people in the whitehouse, or any other fantastic belief system, cannot give consent, and therefore, cannot participate in consentual SM.

I've read some wild replies when this topic comes up but this one takes the cake.  Simply amazing[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m22.gif[/image]...........luci

Dear Luci-

Are you saying that you think that mentally ill people, those that cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality,  should be allowed to practice BDSM?

I really don't feel comfortable with the idea, for the same reason I believe that children, animals, and the dead should not do this stuff we do.

Do you think it is possible for someone to have 'faith' in God (or your deity or religion of choice) and live a BDSM lifestyle at the same time?If so how do you reconcile the two ?
I can`t wait to hear what folks say to this one .

Faith and lifestyle are complementary, not exclusionary.  The particulars of each are not relevant.

An interesting point of view. However, I will continue in my standpoint that BDSM does not belong solely to the atheists of the world. I would consider you living in a fantasy world to believe that is all it takes to make one mentally ill and therefore you have no place in this lifestyle by your own logic.

Luckily, we don't need each other's permission.

As a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist (28 years), there is absolutely no conflict between lifestyle and my beliefs. They both are deeply ingrained in my life.

Dear AS-

So what if  M. Valyraen annouces that he has realised that god wants him to cut your head off and ship it to McMurdo Sound (so it will keep better, I guess)? That's better than his believeing that it's the faries at the bottom of the garden that want it?

(hopefully he'd be annoucing this before you were tied down)

(I am pushing the point past where I think it really belongs)

Stay warm,
Lawrence

I'd tell him that's great and he can find a new girl once I'm done packing my clothes and leaving him. He isn't God and part of a relationship is finding people whose religious views match up. Obviously mine wouldn't match up with his since mine don't believe in human sacrifice. Our relationship would be over.

topcat -> RE: * Beliefs and beatings * (11/21/2007 5:29:21 PM)

Dear AS-

So his religion is wrong, but yours is OK? where is the line? What are the rules?

I said our beliefs wouldn't match up and because of the drastic nature of the mismatch the relationship would be over. I wouldn't call his belief wrong any more than I would condemn the Aztecs. However, since my beliefs call for the peservation of life, I would have to do whatever I could to stop him.

However, this really isn't a good example of religion making someone insane. I would venture to say that most people, in this day and age, belonging to a faith don't go out and kill people. It's like saying all dominants are rapists simply because a few men calling themselves Master have raped people.

There's also the small issue that chopping someone's head off is against the law, unlike the typical Sunday morning service.

Gandhi, King, Tutu: My admiration for them deepens now that I know they overcame mental illness on top of everything else.

Dear AS-

See, I would condem the Aztecs- I think it is wrong to kill people because god told you to. In the case of the Aztecs, I would cut a little slack for the time period, but these weren't cavepeople- they had long distance communication, division of labor, a leisure class- a fairly advanced cultute, wheel or no wheel. But they killed people- lots of people- for god. I do condemn that.

Any sort of magical thinking- be it Quezelquotil <sp?> or leylines or the fairies at the bottom of the garden, or 'god wants me to submit to my master' is something I have to condemn, as a rational human being...

Stay Warm,

MasterFireMaam -> RE: * Beliefs and beatings * (11/21/2007 5:46:51 PM)

Yes. I feel that being a Master is part of my spiritual path and my slaves are spiritual partners. I don't follow a monotheistic path...I'm not sure I'd even say its a polytheistic one. It's a blend of Native American, Buddhist and Metaphysics. But, it all fits together quite nicely.

I know several Masters who are ordained in various religions, now that I think about it. I know a Buddhist monk, a Druid ArchBishop, a retired Anglican (I think) priest, a Shaman...several High Priestesses...and I know various people like me who are in spiritual degreed programs.

I try extremely hard to not judge people by my moral lense. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I don't. I hope I succeed more than I fail. Because of my own moral beliefs, which are formed by my religion, I would try to stop people from killing others in the sake of their religion. I don't feel I can use the word wrong, as that implies I have some higher knowledge of right and wrong, but it would certainly be a conflict of faith.

I do not believe that God wants particularly me to submit to Valyraen, though I don't think it bothers Him either way. I believe God made me the way I am. That is many things, one of which just happens to submissive. It just means I happen to be the most fulfilled in a d/s relationship. That does not make Valyraen some sort of spokesperson for God whom I must obey without question. Not even God gets away without me questioning Him and His desires for me, Valyraen certainly can't! Dear Carlie,

So you think that man's law is greater than God's law? If god appeared to you and told you to do something, you'd start debating it's legality with him?

Not a big fan of Kierkeggard, huh?

By concluding that irrational behavior and thought in and of itself is mental illness, then then by that logic any slave who lives in a state of Internal Enslavement and cannot leave their Master or beleives they have consented to a non consent relationship where they are not allowed to say "No" is by your definition, mentally ill.

Don't forget any Master who has the mentality that he "owns" another human being.

In fact, anyone who roleplays or plays out a fantasy is temporarily mentally ill until they both stop beleiving they are a schoolgirl who chewed gum in class and a schoolmaster with a paddle.
