I usually find that a good knowledge of anatomy works so much better - knowing where the arteries are close to the surface (arms) and where they're far (thighs) means that you know what you can tie tightly and what areas you have to be careful to make sure that you have firm, but light bondage or have it engineered so that none of the arteries or veins are cut off.
