fp2012 -> Meteor shower!!!! Right now! (8/11/2005 3:10:22 AM)

*drum roll* The Perseid Meteor shower is upon us! Yay! It's one of the nicest meteor showers all year with up to 50 shooting stars per hour at it's peak (which is today... sorry for the short notice). However it lasts for about 4 or 5 days so if you're reading this late I'd still check it out. Basically you'll be getting quite a show if you go outside and watch Thursday morning, like right now, or later tonight when it's dark. You'll want to be in a place that's away from a lot of lights, like cities, and have a clear view of the sky. No need for binoculars or telescopes, all I suggest is a nice warm blanket to lay on.
The meteors should radiate from around the constellation Perseus (hence the name). It's a bit difficult to describe where that's located... er... It's near the constellation Cassiopeia which looks like a "W" on it's side. And it's just above the Pleiades, which looks like a tiny little cluster of small stars (almost like a tiny big dipper). But if you can't find either of those just watch the meteors for a bit and you'll get the general idea of where they come from. (yes I am a science geek)
The next shower won't be until October 21st when the Orionids appear. But there aren't nearly as many meteors as during the Perseids. Just thought I'd give you all the heads up! Enjoy the show!
