Aneirin -> Forthcoming Xmas break? (11/23/2007 5:29:11 AM)

So, what are we all doing for the xmas break, has anyone any plans ? Are you looking forward to it or is it just another day?

I ask as I have an unusual break coming, where I will be ensconced in a stuga in the Swedish forest for a few days with the family, is unusual for me, as I usually try to ignore xmas.

I would love to see family. It may not be the exact day- but I am pretty sure I will. :-)

To me its just a lot of fuss, stress and expense I'm afraid - the only good part is the half hour or so of seeing the UMs opening their presents.

It all starts about now - 300 Christmas cards for clients and suppliers to be written and posted. Then a week before Christmas the running all over the UK in freezing or wet or foggy conditions to deliver gifts to our top clients. 1000 miles+ that has to be done in a few days, watching the clock and the traffic jams, often lost, never time to eat or stop for the loo. Real festive fun, that is.

Then there's buying gifts and wrapping them for friends and family. When you have five siblings plus wives plus kids, plus two lots of grandparents, plus cousins and you have to buy gifts for your kids to give to their friends and to the family too, this is a major pain in the arse.

And on the day I have to feign interest as I unwrap gifts to me and wonder what I'll do with this year's haul of toiletries, since the shelves in the bathroom are already heaving from previous years. I really wish people would just give the money to charity - that would be much more appreciated. Then I have to watch everyone drink and stuff themselves stupid - neither of which are my idea of a fun time, before going to sleep for the afternoon. All the while I'm thinking about what I could be doing. Then the evening comes and I get the UMs, who have been with my ex and her lot all day.

So this year I intend to spend it with my family - Tessy cat and Pepper cat, aside from watching the UMs opening their presents. Cook and eat a curry, and maybe spend some time doing stuff that I enjoy.

Bah humbug

E

hmm. Lady E, think outside the box. Being conventional is mundane. You have a sharp mind...

At the moment a singing gorilla gram would be noticed.

I will very likely be out at sea.  Ugh.

Christmas is not a family event for me, it hasn't been a family thing for over 20 years. So this year the ex husband and I decided to do something fun so neither of us would be alone. We are going to Las Vegas!! I've never been there (never really wanted to go either lol) but I am soooo looking forward to it. I think it is going to be a very non-Christmasy Christmas which is fine by me. The meaning of Christmas isn't religious for me whatsoever, it is more of a winter celebration. I would like to be around family, I miss them. They have all sorts of Christmas traditions that I know nothing about and that can make me a bit sad, so instead of being alone and self-pitying it is off to Vegas!
