Aneirin -> Canine or Feline? (11/23/2007 8:43:31 PM)

I see a lot of people here refer to the fact that they own cats, but not so many having dogs.I like cats, I would like to give a home to a cat, but I see it as pointless as I seem to get everyone else's cat on a part time basis. Everyone chucks 'em out at night, they end up here, near on a different cat each night.

So, based upon what I read here, are there more cats in the ownership of kinky people than dogs, what do others here think?

Are you a lover of cats or dogs?

I have a cat, and I have to say that I am more of a cat person.  I like dogs, but dogs are much more of a chore than cats.  Cats take care of themselves for the most part, and they are cleaner too.

Hi Aneirin

I am a dog person... they are smarter and show more affection. On the whole they are more obedient and useful to mankind. They love us rather than tolerate us.

Both.

I like them both. Dogs can be too damn smart, I had a purebred Yellow Lab named Yippeekiyaybuckaroo (Buck for short) who used to let himself out of his highly secure and locked kennel, and after so many times, he was never to be seen again.

My part Manx cat (named "Damnit") used to be able to pull a flying bird out of the air six feet above his head, when he was younger. He's an old cat now... this may be his last year here.

Had a steer too, named Beefsteak - but he only lasted one season. [8D]

Cats for me. My schedule is too chaotic to be a responsible dog owner.

LOVE cats... my cats live into their late teens and into their 20s in human years.. they are purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/23/2007 10:10:02 PM)

Domestic Cats are far cooler than domestic dogs and a cat always has the "If I were bigger I'd eat you" attitude that a dog of its size could never pull off.

For myself, I'm a dog lover.  I tend to perfer the more complex relationship dynamics found in dogs, particularly the amiable nature of many.

Props on your pet-naming system.  ;)

I have a cat. I love dogs, but  could not take care of one with my travel schedule.

Since I am a submissive, it also makes sense to have a cat because you know what they say:

Dogs have owners.
Cats have staff.

MissMagnolia -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/23/2007 10:17:14 PM)

I love my gorgeous old cat, who came to me in a strange way. People ask if I will replace him when he dies. No, because he is very much an individual. I've never seen a cat who behaves like him.

I'm really not an animal lover though, and can live quite happily without animals.

marieToo -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/23/2007 10:18:19 PM)

I'm a cat person--I had one for 17 years, he was very loving and affectionate and playful. I miss that little animal.

Dogs are sweet too, but I don't like something that big and active taking over the house.

I am 100% a dog person.  That I had to push a cat off my chest to sit forward and type this is completely irrelevant.

Sanity -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/23/2007 10:20:36 PM)

"Yippeekiyaybuckaroo" had to have a unique name for his pedigree papers, "Damnit" used his claws in a way that earned him his name, and "Beefsteak" just seemed like a cute name for a steer.. that, and my submissive at the time was getting a little too attached to him, so I thought that name might help out when it came to the eventuality of things

For as long as I can remember, MUCH has been made of the connections between choices of pets.  I can even recall studies that attributed hatred of cats to Hitler, Stalin, and Mao.

I find it to be quite silly!!!   I've know terrific people who were crappy pet owners and total crap heads that were great pet owners.  The type of pet really didn't seem to matter and I still hold that philosophy.  (I don't know that my view is correct, but it is what I have concluded from my non-scientific observations.)

For my own part......I ADORE cats, but I have been a dog owner for about 20 years because I really enjoy the relationship that comes with owning a working dog.  I did Shutzhund for many years.  At this moment, I no longer have the time for a Shutzhund dog and am developing my border collie into a certified therapy dog.  It's a passion I have and one that I can't do with a cat, but it does not detract for my sincere love of felines.   (Much less my love for the hairy felines that reside between 2 legs.)

rubberpet -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/24/2007 4:06:47 AM)

I am certainly a dog person.  While I have adopted a very sweet and affectionate cat, I prefer dogs because they show us love and obedience more as a whole.  You can train them to do many more things than a cat.  If I had a choice, I'd have either a german shepherd or a border collie.  Since I have a very expensive leather livingroom set, I prefer no animals in my house at all.  But I can safely say that my lil' kitty is one rat-killin' machine! [:D]  But the best thing about her is she doesn't jump on and scratch/leave footprints all over my car.  If she did, she would be gone.

pinksugarsub -> RE: Canine or Feline? (11/24/2007 4:18:59 AM)

i love dogs; never miss a dog show on the Animal Channel.  They are so diverse, each beautiful in its own way.

However, i have always owned cats.  Nothing compares to the purring and kneeding a happy cat does on Y/your lap.  They are also much more self-sufficient.

i'm not allowed cats or dogs by my housing asociation, so i have two parakeets who Dom me ('i don't care for this brand of food') -- either i'm a sucker or very, very submissive, lol.
