my understanding is that if you are involved in a poly with 2 slaves, and one is ref'd to as alpha/one/first etc, then they are considered to be 'above' the beta/two/second in order or rank. this helps in situations where the alpha may not want to be submissive to the beta but wants a 'sister' or 'brother'. i've seen it in households where the alpha has tenure or seniority, a closer emotional bond w/owner, or just simply needs to feel they come first. the beta may be req'd to sub to alpha or may not depending on owner. the designation may also just be for play or scening instead of everyday. hope this helps.

i'm not sure if you were referring to a poly relationship you know of, or poly in general. my Master and i seek a second submissive, hoping to have a poly relationship. W/we view both submissives in that future poly relationship as equals (obviously, each having their own talents and skills that may make them more valuable at one specific thing than the other, but both having equal value in the relationship). Neither slave being in a more valuable role than the other.
