Just a quick question, but since it is a message board, written communication, how else would you expect others to form their impressions?

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: chat speak, protocols and judgments. (11/25/2007 11:18:26 AM)

sense it is two dimensional thinking how do you expect someone to fully know a point of view that is given you only know what is before you. THey could be any stance

It is I.
Go away, we don't want any more English teachers!

Sorry, Carlie (I had to do it...it sounds so close to "Sorry Charlie")...but intelligence is still a prerequisite for some of us.  gum-smacking videogame thumbjockeys just don't cut it as subs.  If you only use your head as a hat rack, it aint worth much.

Now, I am simply amazed by those that have come to the conclusion that chat speak is sign of weakness or a lack of control.
No, actually, I view it as lack of effort and laziness. I'm worth the two extra seconds it takes to spell out the words.

An email of introduction or a profile is much like a resume, I for one would never dream of using chat speak in my resume and would dismiss an applicant who would use chat speak in their  resume...... it's a matter of respect and can also be viewed as laziness in not wanting to take the time and effort to write without abbreviation, writing longhand can also aid in showing/proving  intelligence or at least ability to spell and use proper english to the other you wish to impress.  If I can't take the time to put in a concerted effort to write an email to a Dom without chat speak, what is to prevent the Dom from looking at it and thinking if I am going to be that lazy, would I put in a concerted effort as a sub to him, the same works in reverse.   Just my opinion on the matter.

I agree Maya. I've been on the Internet since the days of ARPANET (yes, I did research on it). I don't like chat speak. I don't want to learn it. I like it when an idea or message is well composed. It shows an investment of thought in what was written. While I am from out west, raised on a ranch and consider myself a cowboy, I hate slang like "Get er done". I will not claim to always speak and write correctly. But, I do try. I use spell check and often use grammar check. Yes, even for these comments.

One of the traits I like in women is Intelligence. I also enjoy it in friends and associates. This is a personal preference. But it reflects my fears on what I believe is a "dumbing down" of culture. I refuse to take part in that.

Hey, now, I'm in complete agreement--and said so earlier in post 26.  My stream-of-consciousness sense of humor threw that in there because it's sad and funny that so few people would know that "It's I" is correct while "It's me" is wrong.

(And now that same sense of humor is leading me to lines like "only the best tasting tuna. . ."--but I'll stop while I'm not too far behind.)
