The Bay Area Air Quality Management District claims that fireplaces should be banned because they are contributing to global warming. They claim fireplaces in the homes release carbon dioxide and "particulate matter" in the air. With all the forest fires going on in California putting ENORMOUS amounts of CO2 and smoke in the air, they are worried about the fireplaces in people's homes? I think that would be a tough thing to attempt up here in the northern states where folks rely on wood burners to stay warm through the winter!

That's a tough ban to pass. One of the number one things a home owner looks for is having a nice looking fire place. Besides, not many actually use there Fire Place for burning wood. Most are now used for decoration with artifical burning logs etc.... When a fire is started, most just light the gas as modern fire places have a built in gas pipe for lighting. Hell, if you're going to ban fire places, then what's next? Smoking BBQ Grills? Please, I dare you to tell someone from the South they can't smoke Brisket and Pork anymore. The real conspiricy here is the attempt to keep Santa from comming inside your home during Christmass. Someone has it in for Santa. That's the real reason for the ban.

Sometimes I think articles like this one are an attempt to give people the (false imo) chance to change things. To give them the illusion of being able to control things like out of control fires by 'doing their bit with not using fireplaces'.

I agree with the entry... if you are going to try to ban fireplaces ( no way- not going to happen) then you need to ban cows expelling gas ... better yet, how about banning American's love for red meat... ( no way- not going to happen) However, this is San Francisco we are talking about... a decorators dream as also mentioned above.. " What! No fireplace!... we'll have to knock down the wall, and re arrange the the layout to put one in... adds a nice touch" Where the weather hardly mandates this need compared to up North... They might try to pass no burning of wood in them, but hell if you can afford to live in San Francisco, you can afford the gas hook up![sm=banana.gif]

If you ban Fire Places, then what will California do about old Fire Places? Especially in a home such as this? http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=498 I guess this ban suggest that no newly built homes will have a fire place. What are the sugeestions for old homes with fire places in them?

I keep trying to think of reasons why anyone would want to live in San Francisco in the first place. Oh, I know! It's for the $3,000 per month 2 b/r 750 square foot 4th floor walkup apartments, right?

Because SF is one of the most amazing and vibrant cities on earth and considering you on on a bdsm board, the reasons should be obvious. Dungeons open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, munches every day of the week, more bdsm groups than you can name, home to many of the best bdsm authors, home to many of the kink friendly professionals, and a city that allows the takeover of an entire blvd so 10s of thousands of perverts can have a giant play party in the street. Yeah, fucking awful place to live alright!

This was a problem for folks living in the lower reaches of the Santa Cruz mountains, since a bunch of those folks heat with wood. Denver has the same issue and has limited the use of fireplaces and/or required much more effecient fireplaces/stoves. So it's probably not completely due to greenhouse gases. thornhappy

Or, it could be the hundreds of piles of human feces in the parks every morning from the bum,.........er "independant living people" who don't want to pay $3,000 per month for one of those 4th floor 1950's apartments. Talk about air polution. Pee-eauw! "I left my....... in San Francisco!"
