Talk to your GYN. Exercise is ENCOURAGED before and during pregnacy unless you have some medical problems that would interfere with your/the baby's health. The stronger & more flexible you are the easier term you will have, the easier the birth will be & the quicker you will recover. There are some things you can safely avoid which will help you maintain your weight as well as prevent some common problems during pregnacy like excessive weight gain, edema, diabeties. Dodge the sugars, processed foods, white flour like the plague. They are bad for you anyhow. Want less calories & fat? choose lean cuts of meat & fish. Get no sugar added peanut butter. Stock up on your veggies & fruits - especially fresh. Use olive, sesame & coconut oil & throw away the corn oil & hardened fats (like Crisco) start taking a good multivitamin (again talk to your DR before taking any suppliments). You more than likely WILL gain some weight no matter what you do when you become pregnant, this is 100% normal as your body will be gearing up for breast milk production. I'd be more concerned with GAINING weight before even getting pregnant (no matter what your D would prefer) and more interested to hear what your doctor said. You'd have to be doing some pretty extreme (triathalon level if I'm remembering right) exercise & have a very lean body fat to disrupt your periods. Most folks doing some walking, jogging & normal activities/exercising aren't going to be that extreme.
