SeekingMyrmidon -> Have you ever sent an initial email claiming you have no limits? (11/26/2007 1:36:25 AM)

After receiving yet another empassioned message claiming that the sender has "ZERO LIMITS", I'm posting a journal entry I wrote earlier in November under my individual profile for the benefit of any submissive/slave/bottom who has ever written to someone they haven't met claiming that you will do anything for them, have no limits, and so forth.

Please note that I'm sure this only applies to a small percentage of the people reading this, and that many of the people guilty of making these assertions really do have the best of intentions. Still. Grar. Hopefully this will be helpful to you and to the people with whom you're hoping to correspond/serve:

quote:

"Dear well-meaning submissives of the world, I have a bit of advice for you in your search for a Domme: Do not immediately claim that you will do "anything" for her (particularly when you haven't even *met* her), or that you have zero limits, or that you never say no. It's not true, and after a while, some Dommes get really, really really *really* irritated when they get six or seven emails in a row from complete strangers promising the moon, for what amounts to no reason.

Of course I deserve the moon, but until you've met me how on earth can you know that -- you simply can't! Moreover, the negotiation process gets *so* slippery when you -- the sub -- are so swept up in "the glory" of me that you will not realistically examine your limits. Every reasonably sane human has limits -- limits are perfectly reasonable, and necessary. Finding someone with whom your limits mesh is *critical*, and if you go about pledging mindless obedience and total surrender you're likely to get looked over or barked at. (By the way, sorry, guy I just barked at -- I explained all this to you as well)

You want unreasonable demands from a stranger? You want to feel treated horribly? Fine. Go buy every single thing on my ThingsIWant.com list. Go right ahead, I'm listed under Miss Justice. Do that, and then ask me what incredibly long literary work to have tattooed all over your back side. The Desiderata is a nice one, as is Eisenhower's exit address, and I can think of a few yards worth of poetry that would work as well. Sure, it's painful and expensive but no limits, right?

When that's done, we'll talk about what charitable organization you'll spend the holidays helping, and what strange color we're going to have your vehicle painted. I'm partial to bright green with turquoise polka dots, maybe with orange and pink stripes on the tires. Or better yet, donate your vehicle to Amnesty International and use rollerskates -- even in the snow -- to get around.

After that, we'll talk about what body parts to get pierced, or what outrageous hairstyle you'll be sporting. Purple mowhawks go over *splendidly* in every profession, and if they don't, well, once you're fired you can start working at walmart or something. Better yet, we'll set you up as a phone sex operator so you can construct vast quantities of chainmail fabric for me while you work. Your fingers will be useless after a while, but I'll let you take breaks when you get blisters.

At some point in this list of tasks, you will discover that you do indeed have a limit, if not several. Argh!, I say, argh!

YOU should know your limits!! If you don't know them, SAY that you don't know them, and ask nicely if someone might be willing to spend the time and potential headaches to help you discover them.

Okay, I'm done ranting now. Please, do me the honor of NOT insisting that for me, you'll do "anything". I can prove that you won't, and again, the false assertion over and over and over drives me batty."

Thanks for the sage advice.....the topic of discussion other than your self-proclaimed knowlege is WHAT?  You would be suprised to find how many there are here that would in fact do those things.

This is not an invitation to start another "no limits" thread people, please do NOT go there!

I was going to write something, but laurell3 already nailed it .

greetings seekingmyrmidon,

i have plenty of limits up to a certain level of trust and depth in the relationship, so it's not something i advertise in the first email.

but i have to agree with laurell. she hit the nail on the head.

annabelle.

The problem is the nuts in the chat rooms don't read these forums let alone do anything in real life.  I last about 10 minutes in a chatroom before I get thrown out for being fake...

Trying to educate those people is a waste of time.

I can't imagine not having any limits.  If you asked me to cut off a limb, I don't care who you are, it's staying attached where it's at.  I have been contacted by some wannabe Doms & Masters who have told me I will have no limits.  Those are the ones I reply to with "Thanks, but no thanks," and hit the "block sender" button.

Yeah, I had someone telling me that they had "no limits" and that's actually one of the things that I always mention "So, if your left hand offends me, can I get rid of it?"

I'm sure someone will say yes... that just tells me that I don't want that person though.  I don't want someone who is going to endure literally *anything* for my amusement or pleasure.  Heck, some of the things that I see people on here talking about *wanting* to do (some of them should be called "Hard Requirements") make me basically just ignore the person after that.

Hi Laurell3,

Hm, I could be misinterpreting the tone of your reply but I'm not sure why you sound pissed. Have I done something to offend you?

As to being surprised, yes, I would be surprised to run into anyone, let alone several folks, who would do everything listed, right off the bat without ever having met, developed a sense of trust and understanding. Yep. Definitely surprised.

azropedntied -> RE: Have you ever sent an initial email claiming you have no limits? (11/27/2007 12:46:23 PM)

I welcome those who say they have no limits , i bet i can find some very quickly .
Yet i have said to Domme 's i hold in high regard and entrust with all my being and that know me "she can do whatever she wishes with me " .Mainly due to prior  consent and open communications .Knowing the fact she will not do harm ,perm damage etc or bring in barn yard animals -sure the hair grew back it was still fun with no harm .

I'm not pissed, I'm direct.  Your diatribe about what's right for you is the right way is obviously flawed and in no place did you mention doing these things "right off the bat".  You said doing them at all.

Yes, there are people on this site reading this post I'm sure that claim to have no limits with activities that are actually severe, which most of your list is not.  There are probably many that would do some of the things you listed there that aren't very severe, in fact, there's probably quite a few of us that help charitable organizations over the holidays without an order to do so.  It's not uncommon at all to get body piercings or change your hairstyle for a partner.  Additionally, we generally post for a topic of discussion with a question, not just to tell others how we can guide all the misguided submissives.  Do you see the issue now?

You are assuming you speak for the many, you only speak for the one.

queerandcurious -> RE: Have you ever sent an initial email claiming you have no limits? (11/27/2007 3:59:44 PM)

my opinion on my own limits is that if something isn't going to cause permanent harm or excrutiating pain i'd probably be willing to try almost anything once.

artistbrandi -> RE: Have you ever sent an initial email claiming you have no limits? (11/27/2007 4:13:22 PM)

noooo....never!

I'm new, and deathly afraid of someone I don't trust.....someone I do trust...I'd probably happily surrender and be willing to try most things...but I know where my limits are...if we get to those lines, and decide together to cross them...then that will be in the future.

I see where you're coming from, and can understand how you might have misunderstood. I thought it would be clear when I said "some Dommes", and "complete strangers" that I wasn't speaking for everyone.

However, I'm not assuming -- I do speak for several, if not "the many." (I don't think the many tend speak in one voice about any subject.) I've had quite a few conversations with dominants on this site who saw the post in my journal (prior to sharing it here) and contacted me to agree/commiserate. It was even suggested that I share it on the boards, and if you felt like I was trying to speak for you that was certainly not my intent.

I do still believe that people who would do everything listed in my small rant for a complete stranger, right off the bat, no questions asked or limits/needs discussed, are not all that common. If you've come across them, kudos to you, I'm sure it was/is thrilling and it would be a hell of a treat to encounter someone like that myself.

I'm pretty sure that there are more people than those I've spoken with who *do* get tired of the daily wank-fodder emails from overly-excited submissives -- with whom they've never spoken -- swearing up and down they have no limits and will do absolutely anything for a stranger.

Once trust has been established, of course all sorts of amazing things can be done but that's not at all what I was being pissy about.

Perhaps they're (the overly-excited submissives) not reading through the boards regularly but I'm of the opinion that sharing information is generally a good thing. Clearly, anything like my rant is opinion, and I would assume that the adults reading the posts grok that.

Again, I can see your issue with the lack of clarity regarding the whole initial contact aspect, but please know that a) I'm not speaking only for myself and b) no limits strangers are rare in both my experience (which is by no means all-encompassing but does span quite a few years), and those I've spoken with/known.

Thanks, and I hope I've cleared up the miscommunication.

MsLilac -> RE: Have you ever sent an initial email claiming you have no limits? (11/30/2007 5:31:12 AM)

Even now, I do get quite a few of those ‘I have no limits, I will do anything for you’ type trolling emails. If I can be bothered, I normally respond along the line of…

‘No limits huh? Well, lets put that to the test. Go read my profile’.

And whad'ya know... despite their earlier protestations, I’ve helped them discover their first hard limit! Lol.

They are, in themselves quite amusing and entertaining. But I do admit the sheer volume of them can get tedious. The thing is, I doubt they can be 'educated', lol. As the HNGs are unlikely to be paying attention to what is written in anyones profile/journal.

Just don't sweat it, not worth the hassle. [;)]
