Davesgirl -> Tattoo Help (8/12/2005 12:48:00 PM)

Hey ya'll! I need a bit of help, if you dont mind. Master has charged me with finding some design ideas for a tattoo for me. Neither of us are artists whatsoever. I tried sketchinga few things, but....Sadly, even I couldnt tell what they were.

So, I was wondering if anyone here knew of some good web sites that had some flash up, or designs...Anything really would be greatly appreciated

From my (limited) experience with tattoo shops, if you find a good shop they have big massive books of sketches and designs and previous tattoos you can leaf through. Then you can point to one, say "I want this one but curved here and pierce that" and they'll be like "cool".

When I got my barcode, I designed it and printed it out... not every shop will do this, I imagine, but they actually did something with it and made a rub-on transfer, then just traced over that... wonky!

Veav is right (I'd be wary of a tattoo place WITHOUT books of sample tattoos), but I think it's still better to go there with a specific idea in mind, and a printout or drawing of something you like is even better. Type "tattoos" into Google and you'll get countless hits, many of them with pictures that you can download and print.

If you google the word Tattoo like LaM suggested, you will come across countless sights that have tat images to use. Also, the parlour/studio will have tons also and any GOOD tattooist will sit and talk with you and go through their images with you. Also, buy something called tattoo goo - so I am told - I just bought some for my tattoo which I am about to have done and I was recommended it by alot of people.

TattooGoo

Another good recommendation is have a look around the studio - if they are are hesitant about allowing it, then dont use them.

Peace and Love

Master has designed all but one of his, as well as designing one of mine by contacting the artist he wants to use at the time and describing what he wants. He has been inked by people in NYC, Long Island, Philly and the next guy works out of Michigan. They can mock something up based upon what you describe and email or fax you the design for approval or changes. You really don't want to choose something out of the books, imo....they are what everyone else is sporting :)

best regards,
fate

I've found some interesting designs in Celtic Art source books which can be adapted. Master bought me a tat magazine the other day which had some lovely stuff in it, good for insperation.

If you have an idea of what you want... like was said... google it.
put in a specific tho... as "tattoo" will pull up WAY too much.
I drew mine out... took it to the artist and had them add too it.
Look thru their books, dont bother with the flash. The books are their actual work. It shows their talent.
If a shop wont do your original work... walk out.
Dont negotiate, dont pleade... just turn around and leave.

I cant wait for my next one. [:D]

When I was doing research I started with
"celtic sun" and "sun tattoo" then went on to "celtic sun tattoo" in google

Google images is your friend, big time.

Like my artist advised--if you think their portfolio is just "ok" don't go to that studio. The portfolio is their very best, or what they think is their very best. If it's just ok, imagine what their average work is like.

Not if they have any ethics, they won't.

Taking a piece of flash off the wall and making minor changes to it is one thing, but cribbing a previoulsy done tattoo and tweaking it is pretty lame and most artists (artists, not scratchers) won't reproduce a previous work on a new client without the original client's permission. Take the time to sit down with your artist and collaborate on a design that means something to you and you'll be much happier with it in the long run.

This is one time where imitation is *not* the most sincere form of flattery.

i am not an artist either and when i got a tattoo to cover up a letter that was put on me by a Dom without my consent, i just went to a tattoo parlor and looked through their books. The actual artist gave me his opinion on what he thought would look nice and drew a preliminary, and i LOVED it. He tattooed me about 2 hours later and to this day i touch and look at my tattoo and am so happy with what i have.

my tattoo is on my right hip and its a rose with my Masters Initial above it!

If your Master is insisting you do it yourself, going to the different parlors will give you TONS of ideas!

Good luck!!

Greetings

Master and I designed and worked on the I have for a year. I have now worn it proudly for a year. W/w looked around the internet and parlors for what seemed like forever and then this one almost came to U/us. We found the cletic design and modified it and added the triskelion, and the colors W/we wanted. Pics are on my profile :)

good luck in your quest

Going to try google though, and see what I can come up with. Please, keep the ideas coming, they've been very helpful

Here are a few sites with flash;

http://www.bullseyetattoos.com/index.asp

http://www.cherrycreekflash.com/

http://www.tattoos-by-design.co.uk/

If you're going to do a search you'll find more under "tattoo flash". [;)]
