As far as thread writing goes, what is the difference between a 'poll' and a 'discussion', is there a place where both polls and discussion coincide to be either?

To me, a poll is a simple 'Yes' or 'No', if there is an 'explain your answer' attatched to the question, then that poll becomes a discussion.

If a thread which is written as a question, in that an oppinion is sought, is that thread then a poll or a discussion and on here, which forum should it be entered into, ' off topic' or 'polls' etc?

Poll or discussion, your thoughts are very much invited?

What we mostly have here are discussions, although after some threads have run to several pages, a simple yes/no poll at the end would be interesting.

Do we vote on this discussion later

If you stick a poll in a post - it's a poll, regardless as to whether you have asked for further thoughts.
If it's a discussion question -  it's a discussion - unless it's stupid enough question to get stuck in the 'random stupidity' catagory.  If the question is a one or the other answer, I would still call that a poll.

Waves to the Dark.... If it`s a specific question and you make a poll, it`s no longer a random poll, due to the fact it`s specific. If however you ask with two answers, is it a poll or does it become multiple choice, two being the multiple of one. If you discuss the choice between answer one and answer two, is it a true discussion or are you just ditheringly undecided ?

What I don't get is that we can create a poll in this section of CM, but it'll be moved to the Random Stupidity and Polls section.

I tend to think that if you give someone specifics options - your not really offering a discussion but a poll - for example - 'Do you prefere the colour Red or Black - discuss why' is a Poll  but asking 'Whats your prefered colour - discuss why' is a discussion.  Multiple choice is a poll - open without choice and asking for personal ideas is a discussion.

At least in my lil world
And curious or lot - your mind rocks politeone...
