i recently updated my browser to IE 7 and now it's very unstable; opening a new window or running for more than an hour seems to cause it to close.

Does A/anyone have a suggestion as to how to improve matters?  i'd like my old version of the browser back but i'm not sure how to go about it.

Thanks a bunch,

I tried Firefox for a long time, it being the strongest alternative and it ended up getting on my nerves, too...  It creeps up in ram consumed a lot of the time.  I'm using Opera now and I like it a lot... it has some pretty cool feature... you can close the browser and let's say you were typing something in this box.... well, when I opened it back up, if I told it to, it would restore my session from last time and all the words I'd typed would still be here.  Sorry I couldn't give you any good advice, but just letting you know there's an alternative to firefox if ie doesn't work out for you.  I haven't had any display problems with this browser, either.  ...And like other popular browsers, the interface is nearly always the same so it's not hard to figure out.

IE 7 CAN be uninstalled, which makes your computer "more stable" again, but I have seen "aftershocks" (Weird errors from parts of IE7 not uninstalling correctly--not unique to IE7, though, can happen with ANY program you install and then uninstall!), so the best idea is to backup whatever is most important to you on a memstick or external hard-drive, and reformat the thing...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DRIVERS FIRST! Nothing worse (in the computer world) than reformatting and "discovering" you don't have drivers for your computer...The computer will work, but no sound, basic graphics, and perhaps most importantly: NO INTERNET! (Modem and LAN card BOTH require drivers!)
I still like IE6...Primarily because it's the first thing that's "there" when you reformat and/or switch computers...FireFox is OK, but the fact that it IS decentralized and "free" means there is no incentive to tech-support, ergo, little or no tech-support. I haven't tried Opera in a LONG time, so I'm not qualified to give a review of any new versions that have come out between now and then...
Then again, I WAS one of the early adopters of MOSAIC...Sort of a prototype Internet Explorer without all the graphics and other "polish"!
Hope this helps!

Or maybe you can just get a new computer. Im currently running IE 7 and have had no problems so far, exept for that hellishly long installation.(what was that all about?)

Install firefox, and ditch IE.

http://getfirefox.com

I rarely use IE7 for anything; I don't like how it reports data back to Microsoft.
