Timothy Elliot, a bank robber on parole, won $1million with a scratch off ticket; but gambling violates his parole.  A hearing on the matter has been scheduled.

Interesting.  I think he still won, but he might be buying a TON of stuff from the comissary in prison and not much else.

I don't know how they do parole up in Massachussets.  But here that is really just a technical violation.  They have a technical violator's program here seperate from the general population prison.  They send them there and they do about a month or two.  The prisons are so full, they really can't send everyone back for minor infractrions.  I don't see why this guy shouldn't be allowed to keep the money.  I do think he's is probably going to be in for a hell of a lawsuit with the state government.  After the lawyers are done with it, he won't have much left.

Well the examples they quoted are for funds already being attached (ie: child support and taxes).  Unless it's an actual crime for him to buy them and the ticket contract says you can't win if you by them and it's a crime, which of course it does very clearly for minors, I can't see how he didn't win the money.  Then again, I haven't read the contract, there could be all kinds of weird stuff in it.
