Guild Wars is kind of passe, mostly 'cause they have very rigid areas where you are and are NOT allowed to move...Nothing more annoying than a one-inch dropoff blocking you from forward motion...
Dungeon Runners is also free, and comes closest to merging Guild Wars and Diablo II...No one-inch dropoffs here, there are gentle rolling hills and sheer cliffs straight to Hell--not necessarily figuratively--and a surprisingly good pathing engine! If you don't "feel" like moving everywhere with the arrow-keys or AWSD, you can click on a location, and your character will automatically figure out the best way to get there!
There's also City of Heroes/Villains, two games in one "universe" that lets you make your own costumed vigilante or supercriminal...Not so "super" due to recent nerfs, but still a lot of fun!
And more recently, there's HellGate, the spiritual successor to Diablo (And coincidentally made by the Diablo team who were fired by ungrateful Blizzard bigwigs!) HellGate is truly AMAZING in graphics and gameplay, and enemies even repopulate an area after several minutes, but it uses the first-person viewpoint and/or the third-person "over-the-shoulder" viewpoint, rather than Diablo's ¾ isometric. Can be discomforting to some, I guess? Aiming IS more important now, with the new viewpoint...But it has 4 stats and a skill-tree, so Diablo II fans should feel almost immediately at home! HellGate also has a rare feature this day and age: A GOOD single-player Campaign! In fact, you can firewall yourself off from the Internet COMPLETELY and still play! And that might not be such a bad idea, HellGate has in-game advertising that sucks up bandwidth and that the mod community hasn't yet figured out how to disable! Talk about pure evil manifesting in games!
For good strictly single-player fun, there's OverLord, sort of a spiritual successor of ye olde Dungeon Keeper series by BullFrog (Haven't heard anything from them, are they still around?) Lead a horde of imps to kill things and collect their life-force, earning--or AVOID earning--Corruption Points by doing or not doing evil things, and even join battle yourself if/when necessary! I have another post on an earlier thread "Rooting for the bad guy" or something like that, about OverLord, so you can read more about it there, rather than reposting here for sake of brevity!
