mitda -> Needle play/recoup from major surgery? (12/1/2007 4:58:18 PM)

i have question: i'm recovering from a major abdominal surgery, and while i know (alllll tooo well) that i can't perform sexually for a few more weeks, i was wondering if anyone knew if my Master may indulge in a bit of needle play.  i can't really see why not, but maybe someone has some words of wisdom on this topic?

Thanks very much!

If the surgery was female specific, my question would be do you become aroused by needle play?

If so, that would work muscles that require more time to heal.

were you put on any kind of blood-thinners for your surgery?? ( often given to avoid bloodclots in the legs afterward)
that could be something to be concerned about.

Major abdominal surgery? I'm of the opinion that perhaps it would be far more prudent to exercsie some patience and refrain from any sort of injury/pain play.  Your body is already trying to heal one major intrusion. It would be more wise to let it do its work rather then confuse it by trying to heal too many thiings at once.

In addition to what the others have said, also you don't want to risk any form of infection.  I am recovering from hip replacement surgery and they told me to avoid anything that can cause an infection, even dental work, and to get antibiotics immediately if i do contract an infection during the next two years.

I would recommend to stay away from the needles until your body has recovered.  Intrusion like needle play can slow down the over all heeling process and there is always the risk of infection to consider.... specially after a major surgery.

Thank you all very much for the kind replies.  (yes, female specific surgery, alas)  two more weeks until those muscles can do what the do (sigh sigh sigh sigh).

*goes back to laying around and healing.*

Here's some unsolicited advice.  I had abdominal (colon) surgery last summer.  I healed quickly and here is the recipe I followed:

I rested when I was tired.
I spent time outside, in the sun, reading.
I took a walk every day.  In the first week I found the walks to be exhausting, but I am convinced it is the one thing I did that helped me heal quickly.
I went back to work (desk job) after 15 days off.  Which many people have told me is a surprising feat (but I'm a tough girl).
I was fortunate in that I healed quickly.  Worrying about sex and bdsm play didn't really cross my mind and my biggest priority was returning to work.

HI,

First and foremost I hope the surgery was totally successful and your recovery is going even better than expected.  I have had 3 major surgeries in the last 7 years including "female abdominal" and I can really relate to your wanting to do "something".  I would add my cautionary words to everyone else's.  Total healing, even a vague possibility of bleeding or infections, a wrong twist or pull or flinch, so many things 'could' happen.  Even if you think the odds are high that nothing bad would happen, is it really necessary or worth the risk.  Also, if you are still on any pain meds at all, even otc, it can effect how you feel if you play.

Something that I was not prepared for at first, but others have agreed it happened to them as well, is that following a major surgery and or injury, my pain levels - that is my tolerance to pain - changed drastically.  At first I could take very little pain as compared to before.  Over time my tolerance levels seemed to change both up and down again for a few months.  I do not know if it has to do with the types of anesthesia or pain meds (one surgery required some very heavy duty meds for nearly 6 weeks after) or if it was the trauma my body went through with an injury which required the surgery to fix, or if it was the long long time with no play at all for total recovery.  The surgery that was the easiest physically was the most traumatic emotionally and that too may have had an effect on my pain processing.  Just please be patient and err on the side of caution, as they say.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.
Opal
