The vaginal pear of old was a horrendous device, capable of killing not just torturing, but it's action of widening in diameter has an obvious attraction for obvious uses. Is there a modern safer variant available, or has anyone thought of making something along the lines? Myself, I thought of something using heavy rubber and also a system using water pressure to expand an object.The idea of expanding metal segment does not really hold any attraction to me, because of the envisaged pinching action on closing the device.I am in this for mutual fun and pleasure, not harm

I don't know, but I saw some of the old real ones they used for torture in some museums in London and all I can say is YIKES. I think even a rubber one if it had internal pinching action could be a problem, but some may like it.

something as simple as a balloon ( punchballs with the rubber band ) and a enema bag perhaps ?

They do make an inflatable dildo that can get quite huge. Another thing you can try is using a 12 inch party balloon (thick) and inserting marbles into it. Kyst

I can see the appeal there! Making something in a similar way that inflatable gags and butt plugs are made might prevent any pinching effect, though I would have thought air pressure would be more practical than water, water can have a somewhat more sensual effect added if the rubber isn't too thick or solid to prevent that but would require it to be connected to a tap every time... I wouldn't think an enema bag could really provide enough pressure though... The design would need to be thought out with different thicknesses of rubber so the expansion was limited in the right directions... You could try asking around at SWAMP or Westward Bound in Plymouth for more ideas...? Let me know if you make one or get one made, sounds interesting!

Rather different aesthetic than the originals, but what about something like this: http://www.extremerestraints.com/3-prong-anal-speculum_55.html However, for more sensual play, i think the inflatables are the way to go... the pressure is gentle and gradual, much more forgiving than the metal.
