Assuming it's the person I'm thinking of, I read of her passing on one of the local lists. I was saddened by it very much especially given her youth. I didn't know her but she's family in the sense of being a member of the local community. My sympathies to you as her friend. I've been keeping a journal for years now and it mostly contains memes and humorous entries with a few more serious notes and essays along the way. As a historian, I recognize the value it holds to those who may read it in the future. While my stepson and neice and nephew will (hopefully) get a great chance to know me and learn about me over the next (hopefully, again) 50 or so years, their children and grandchildren may not. I hope that by leaving a written record of my thoughts and humorous tidbits may help them understand me a little better and maybe themselves. One of the critical things is to make sure I transfer it to the permanent medium, paper and ink, regularly lest it get lost in the internet ether. It's a great way to relate to the present and to the future.
