I'm going to celebrate when LSU tears OSU a new a-hole. I loved watching the Buckeyes go down to the Gators last year. That was AWESOME! Im so sick and tired of watching Ohio State get a free ride to the National Championship every year just because of their name.

Man, i was really curious to see what the "pros" were to mad cow disease, but apparently that's BSE, not BCS... doh. i got about four paragraphs into the article before my eyes glazed over, but i still don't know what a BCS is. Since it appears to involve college students playing sports on television instead of learning, i'm going to vote nay.

My friend coaches a team of 11, 12 years olds. Guess what! They made the "playoffs". Kids suit up and "play" for the championship. College football, division 1A, is the only sport without a playoff.

No, there never was a playoff system. The BCS was invented in order to get people to stop complaining about the old bowl system without instituting a playoff. The pros and cons of the BCS are really easy to map out: Pros: The six major conferences are guaranteed at least one large payout each. (Not really a pro for any of us, but we don't make the decisions, and that's why there's a BCS system.) At least now you get a match-up of theoretical 1 vs 2 to determine a champion on the field -- before the BCS it was just an election by the pollsters. A lot of talking heads are using the lack of clear number 1 and 2 teams this year as an argument to justify a playoff as if that would make the bowl games more interesting; I think a playoff could possibly make for a more interesting championship game, but the playoffs themselves wouldn't increase the interest in those games to anyone beyond the fans of the teams playing in them, so it really wouldn't do much at all. Besides, a little controversy is a good thing -- as a Penn State fan I get to gripe about JoePa having 4 undefeated teams get shafted by voters (especially the '94 team); Auburn fans get to gripe about their undefeated team in 2003 missing out of the championship when Oklahoma went even after getting smoked by K State in the Big 12 championship, and Oklahoma fans get to feel real smug about being elected champions in 1950 (among othe years) even though they lost their bowl game to an 11-1 Kentucky team. It's all good!

More than anything, I hate the corporate bowl games. I understand the money of the FEDEX Orange bowl, but the sound of it makes me cringe.

What do you think the BCS? A formula developed by THE POLLSTERS containing the polls voted on by THE POLLSTERS and a few bullshit MoV and SS variables mixed in. IT'S THE SAME FUCKIN' THING. If you want a theoretical 1 vs 2 matchup, you might as well put Illinois in the title game because they beat OSU, so theoretically they're the second best team in the nation.

On a sports talk show the other night, it was suggested that the BCS system would work much better if there were no conference championship games. In that case, Missouri would be playing a BCS game instead of Kansas whom they defeated. USC, Ohio State, LSU, Boston College, Georgia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia would all be playing in a BCS game. That helps Missouri, which got screwed this year. Realistically, the BCS system was invented to come up with a No.1 vs. No.2. Everything else is secondary. The only problem is that the process in coming up with a 1 vs. 2 is so suspect it is ridiculous. How many coaches actually vote in the coaches poll? Many have assistants vote for them because they don't watch other games during the season. And there is alot of conference bias in their votes as well. More teams from their conference in the bowls, more money for their conference. The BCS stinks and is the source of endless controversy. But that just might be the point. (Damn, once again I forgot I was on my slave's profile. Lol.) Estring
