Talk and listen and listen some more and laugh with each other and when you don't know for sure, say so, and then talk and listen. Repeat as needed!

By open and honest communication.

If you wanna introduce a new (and esp more extreme) form of play, for eg, you don't wait until your sub is bound and helpless to mention it. Most subs will go along with what their Dom/me wants if the trust is there and if it isn't, pre-planning and honest discussion about the proposed activity is also an excellent way to build that trust.

And if it's the sub who wants to try something new, different or more extreme, he/she should also be encouraged to speak their mind in an equally receptive communicative manner. You'll come across the importance of it in most lifestyle discussions - "communication, communication, communication...."
