Yes, it would be good date movie. An incredible story, amazing photography and cute baby penguins.

Edit:

But it -is- a documentary so don't expect explosions or snappy dialogue.

The movie gets a little grim in parts. I couldn't help wondering what the French version would be like (apparently it was released in France first) because the sound track is very different. Instead of English, they speak French.

No, seriously the French version is very different. It has French pop music instead of a symphonic score and it has actors reading lines for the penguins, like in an animated film.

But the American version is a pure documentary so if you don't have a bit of inner nerd it may not appeal to you.

I like documentaries and anyone who doesn't think baby animals are cute is more than a little heartless. I wanna see this movie.

I am going to see it tomorrow. I have heard great things about it. After I see it I will post my thoughts on it.

I think penguins are very cute - and I plan on taking my sister and my best friend (both of whom adore penguins) to see this movie.

That's bizarre...glad they didn't do that for the English version. It works fine with just the imagery. I think they probably could've told the story without Morgan Freeman doing the voice overs too.

I might have gotten a bit confusing at times without the voiceover, but yes, there were points when it was simply intrusive.

Oh, the French songs were written by Emilie Simon. (Not that I know who she is) but I found an online review of someone flying from Japan to Quebec and during the flight they showed the French version with English subtitles.

I just got back from seeing the movie. If I were forced to sum it up in one word that word would be "Spectacular."

Not only is the cinematography just breathtaking the story is compelling as well. I really never understood exactly what those flightless birds actually do to survive. It was entertaining from the opening scene to the end of the credits. If you have the chance, go see this film.

I was going to take my daughter to see it, instead I decided to read the spoiler online. She wont be going to see it.

I figured a 5 year old would love it. But, I think she's a bit too young for the ... circle of life.. especially when she cries for an hour because Bambi's mom died. Then again, I still cry at Bambi. Im prolly not the best person to take her to see this. hehe

Wow, and I thought it was just an interesting nature film.

OMG. Appallingly stupid.
Anyway, I found it funny that they made something completely different in the english version. In french we hear a couple (a male and a female) penguins discuss)... Were they out of cash to do a one voice only version ? Or is it just as good ?

Anyway I'm glad that this cute movie made more money in America than any of Luc Besson's movie. He's such a ****.

No, really it was very moving with the love songs (I think there was at least a Gainsbourg love song... checked, apparently not... who is that Émilie Simon ?).

Anyway... is there anyone who didn't cry when the couple failed to pass the egg from the female to the male ?

tinkJH : Apparently kids love it too, they just don't see the same thing.

I am not sure. I got the name from the movie credits.

I didn't cry but it was heartbreaking. The movie did an amazing job of making the audience care for a couple of birds.
