Hi I was wondering what are some examples of positive reinforcement rather than negative My Master would like to know it's not just spanknig is it?

Ok, because I'm a dork, a mini-lecture thing on positive/negative punishments/reinforcmenets.

The basics go like this--
Punishment is anything that causes a given behavior to decreaces
Reinforcement is anything that causes a given behavior to increace

Positive punishment-- the application of a bad/painful stimulus to discourage a desired behavior. IE-- getting hit, or wearing a buttplug till a chore is done, gettting bitten by a dog for teasing it.

Negative punishment-- the taking away of something that is enjoyable in order to encourage/discourage a behavior IE-- being denied internet priviledges for "talking back" or being forbiden to wear a favorite peice of clothing for spending too much.

Positive reinforcement-- giving something good to encourage/discourage a desired behavior. IE you get candy if you clean your room, a masochist gets a spanking for doing something good

Negative reinforcement-- the taking away of a negative/painful/bad stimulus to reward good behavior. IE removing the buttplug when the chore is done. Taking tylenol for a headach is also negative reinforcement. You take it, the pain goes away. You have been negativly reinforced to take tylenol when you have headaches.

My partner uses all of these on me. When I am particularly good, I get rewarded--I get to go out to dinner or get a new peice of jelwerly or most noteably, get to get a tattoo. Or, alternativly, if we're in the middle of something scene-type, if I do something good I can get stimuli I don't like taken away. If I'm good at something, he'll -stop- playing with my nipples for example.

in terms of punishment, i don't reallyg et positive punishment, because, to me it's usually pleasurable. Negative punishment works really well though. I lose net privildeges, or TV privildegs.

If Libby, Smiler or Rio do a good thing, I just say "Thank you, you have pleased me." I can get a suntan from the smiles that result.

For a nonverbal example, Rio really gets off on watching Libby squirm with pleasure and moan as Rio massages her feet and gives her a pedicure.

Positive reinforcement in anything but engineering is good.

just like when training a goog, you poor wather on him when he bark at the enigbor and give him a treat when he let the neigbor bass whitout a fuss.

I have to agree with perverseangelic. Read what is there and you have the whole concept in a nutshell. Your Master needs to know what things are rewards for you and use those things to increase good behavior. (Good behavior being those things that he wants you to do.) Sometimes just saying "You have done well" or "You have pleased me" is enough. A real Master is not above saying thank you in various ways for things that have pleased him.

In psychological terms "positive reinforcement" means GIVING something that will INCREASE the likelihood of a behavior being repeated, such as giving orgasms to encourage them to keep doing their homework.

"Negative reinforcement" means TAKING AWAY something that will INCREASE the likelihood of a behavior being repeated.

"Positive punishment" means GIVING something that will DECREASE the likelihood of a behavior being repeated, ie spanking a sub to get her to stop a bad habit.

"Negative punishment" means TAKING AWAY something that will DECREASE the likelihood of a behavior being repeated, ie taking away comptuer time privileges to stop a bad habit.

What works in each of these categories completely depends on the specific person.

Think of it like this, when parents wan their children to learn to like to read, they might buy them books, set up cose eveings whit reading and candy, therby making the reading be asosiated whit somthing nice.

Spanking is NOT positive reinforcement.
Unless you are a painslut. and if so all that is going to to is give you more positive reasons to misbehave.

Positive reinforcement...
Telling you that youare a good girl, Complimenting on a job well done, complimenting on your looks, Doing something for "you" out of the ordinary. pat on the head, taking you out to dinner or a "event". Giving you some time for self. ALL sorts of things can be positive reinforcement. Looking each other in the eyes.

Negative reinforcement... Telling you that you are worthless, Putting you down in front of others, Foring you to keep your head and eyes down in his presence, Beating you for no reason, Not caring about the person who is YOU, Putting you down with others, Forcing you to gain weight or to dress a certain way to be unappealing toward others, To isolate you from others.

Punnishment should be delt out as it is required. I may not like it but if I said you had to do this or that or you would receave 50 lashes and you for what ever reason disobayed that request. Then I am forced to do that which I may not want to do as I have to as I said it WOULD be done if the task was not done. It would in all likely hood hurt me more then you. But I would do it. Punnishment for disobaying a rule or ignoring a task can be many things and most of them are non-painfull in a physical sence.

This isn't negative reinforcmenet.

As with spanking, it's possitive punishment. The application of unpleasant stimuli to decreace the likelyhood of a given behavior.

Wait a minute. Punishment is negative reinforcement. The two terms are synonymous, or damn close to it. Likewise, reward is positive reinforcement; also synonymous.

I smoke a cigarette and it makes me feel good: positive reinforcement for smoking.
I smoke a cigarette and it makes me want to puke: negative reinforcement for smoking.

My sub does something I have told her to not do. I take her out for a really nice Italian dinner: positve reinforcement for that behavior. I give her a stern lecture, clearly indicating my disappointment and displeasure. I give her a hard, definitely not enjoyable spanking and, after a bit of aftercare, put her in the corner: negative reinforcement for that behavior.

My girl does something that really pleases and impresses me. I pay little attention, maybe even act condescending and aloof: negative reinforcement for her deed. I praise her, let her know how pleased I am and take her someplace she really likes to go: positive reinforcement for the pleasing behavior.

Does that make sense? That's how I learned it.

In psychological terms positive and negative don't mean good or bad (which are very relative terms).

Positive means Plus/Adding/Giving

Negative means Minus/Subtracting/Taking

What you're saying makes sense, but you're deffinitions aren't correct, psychologically.

Positive and negative punishment are both designed to stop a behavior, through different means.

Positive and negative reinforcement are both designed to increace a behavior, though through different means. Positive and negative reiforcement are both, basically "good' things, in that they make your girl/boy continue a given behavior.

Accuratly, negative reinforcement is the taking away of something, to increace a behavior one likes. Coloquially, "negative reinforcement" is used to mean both 'positive and negative punishment" but it isn't a correct use of the term.

Actually, this is positive punishment. You are inflicting something on her to keep her from repeting a behavior.

Hrm I'm stuck on this one. I'd probably call this negative reinforcement as well, in that you're taking away something in order to cause a continuace of behavoir. That is, you stop the affection--take away a positive stimulous in order to make the positive behaviors continue. She strives harder to do what you like because you took away something good. She works harder to get it back.

I'm iffy here, though.
