For me, bdsm and sex are intertwined; but I can enjoy each separately, and I am glad of this. I occasionally enjoy experiencing regular ol' vanilla sex with my husband because he is the object of my love and my life's desire. I also deeply love sounding and cutting him, watching him bleed for me after winding him up with a good flogging. The elements of bdsm and sex are there for us, but since they reside within our relationship and our hearts they do not always have to be on display. To the OP, yes, love DOES factor in for me. I cannot really HURT someone physically unless I care very deeply for them. And the more I love, the more I want to hurt. The urge to crush something I adore is strong.
