I've been trying since last night to access Castlerealm to read an article.  The home page opens but with no "Enter" spot.  Does anyone know if the site is down or having technical difficulties?

I tried to access it for the first time in years about a week ago, it seems to have been taken off line...

Thank you for your reply.  At least i know it's not just my computer now.  Hope the site gets running again as some articles aren't available anywhere else.

Well now, would you believe that I actually referred someone to it to get an idea of what people were talking about on this board? Of course I told them that they should read it while taking many grains of salt

Actually I recommended an entire container of Morton's, and then they could gag themselves with the umbrella on the packaging when they were done swallowing the bullshit on that site (actually I am exaggerating, but you get the idea).. but there are still some ideas that would give someone a base to operate from in understanding what we are talking about in a general sense...

It was the first place I was exposed to many concepts about WIITWD, and I did not buy it hook, line and sinker as a noob, and if people are warned that it is only one place for some vague information I do not see it as too harmful... and it is free, people do not have to go buy a book for a little exposure to some very general concepts

It's seriously down down.  Google's cache doesn't have any info backed up, and all of the old links to it's various essays and such redirect to the same barebones "Castlerealm.com" page.

I'd love to say good riddence, because frankly I abhor most of the info there, but I also understand that many people found it to be a valuable resource, and for that I'm sad that it's down.

Seeing as I was the moderator for the Castle Realm forum for awhile, it's always a site I encouraged people to read and think it just happens to get a bad rap only because it became the SYMBOL for what everyone saw as wrong and bad with the newbie issue- not because it ever actually was that bad.

I've seen more crap from "respected doms" on collarme than I ever found at castlerealm.

Noooooo! That site has a place in my heart. I first read it when I was 12! (That's creepy, isn't it?)

I used to like it in the pre-internet days when it was a stand-alone BBS site. Once it became a web-site it seemed to be too general and less interesting.

Thank you for the info, pam.  i rather enjoyed many facets of Castle Realm.  i'm sorry that it is not available, and hope that the situation in temporary.  i appreciate the link you provided.

To some other posters: i find it odd that, particularly on this site, there are some who leap to the opportunity to disparage a site like that so quickly.  Closed minded.

Not closed minded, just reality based. I've read things on the site there many times...and it always left me feeling like I really needed that umbrella julia referred to. I guess for those trying to feed their fantasies it was probably as good a place as any to do so. You can feel free to disagree, but that really was my impression of the place.

It's a shame that it is gone...I can now only expect a whole "new" group of posters starting threads like  " Is someone who is desperate a bad fit"?  ....Or "Should I remove my collar if it might kill me?"

The anticipation is overwhelming!!!

I always liked the Castle Realm site.  Daddy suggested that I go there and check it out years ago and have sent others there to just see what one couple's way of living their form of D/s was, not that it was the only way.  It was a resource and I saw that it wasn't available a few weeks ago.  I hope it comes back again.  I just kinda liked it.  Just me, your mileage may vary.

Well, like some people said, they enjoyed the unicorn show. My problem with the site is that it tended to be heavily maledom./femsub oriented, very romantic in its structure, and perhaps gave the impression that was what submissives could expect from dominants... like they are "honorable", etc... which probably raises false expectations of what they actually encounter at a local munch, or a site like this

But Julia, do you honestly think I come across as that type of person?  That I'd be likely to endorse something that really is sort of a "unicorn show" and leads to more harm than good by inciting and encouraging such false expectations?

Or maybe you all really do think I'm exactly the type to believe the unicorn stories and all the bad things you say CR represents?
