There is a huge difference between being blind for a scene, and actually being blind. I think blind people learn to process their other senses more, the same way Deaf people can learn to use other senses. I don't think there's some mystical equalizer somewhere that says - hey, if you can't see, then your sense of smell becomes like a dog's, it's that strong!!!! But certainly when you lack one sense, you learn to pay attention to and process information that most of the rest of us ignore. However - that takes time, and it's not something that goes off and on like a switch. I do think that depriving someone of one or more senses makes the others more important, which can seem like they're stronger. But not at the same level or in the same way that someone who cannot use that sense would develop. Two different ballgames, really. Football to baseball, as it were.
