I was wondering if P/people would be willing to share how T/they chose T/their CM nicks, why T/they chose that particular nick (ex. make a statement, reveal personality) etc.?

I acquired my nick several years ago; it is Gorean, and means "beloved."

I used to post in these forums under a different nic.  My sig-line then was "a heretic, as usual."  This seemed like a good way to keep some continuity.

My real name is Stephan.  Unfortunately, Stephan, on CM was taken by a nigerian who stuck around for one day.  Thus, the extra 'n' at the end.

When BDSM became 'mainstream' and hit the internet about 10 years ago, I started out as Scarlet.  I wanted a woman's name, something just a wee bit on the sensual side.  Red has always been my favorite color, hence the name Scarlet.  That evolved into Mistress Scarlet and when I joined CM, there was apparently another Mistress Scarlet.  In fact, there are Scarlets and Mistress Scarlets EVERYWHERE.  I simply removed the vowels from Mistress when I joined and that allowed me to keep the Scarlet part.

Someone told me that I reminded them of the mad old bag in Steel Magnolia's. So Miss Magnolia I became. Because Miss Steel sounded a bit butch.

I remember you AND your picture.  I see that you've pulled it (from the message boards anyway).  Wasn't there something about a lunatic in one of your sig lines as well????  Or was it always just the one?

People are constantly changing their avatars and names on here.  Why is that?  Mine has been the same from day one.

Several years ago....(before joining CM)..i became tired of the rather lame and...sadly immature nicks i'd been using here and there..at different chatrooms ect~things like sassy..sassyass....kissy..kissyface...and worse of all~~~ jeanieNbtlle *rolls eyes lol

So i set out to create a nick that was unique..original..completely "me"..more mature..sweet..and just a lil taste of naughty.

i asked myself what i liked.?..flowers...roses...

Then i asked myself why?  And in part, one thing i have always loved to do to flower petals..esp rose petals..is to pluck a petal free..and rub and rub and rub it between my fingers..till its sheer and limp.

Why? because i enjoy the velvet texture..the silky texture..the scent as the oils are released.. mmmm

So..from there..it was simply putting the two words together   velvet..and petal.

Of course it was imediately also obvious that there can be a bit of hidden naughtiness in that ...which was exactly the thing i was looking for.... along with sounding refreshingly..AND eternally more mature..i knew i'd found a nick to last my lifetime...and it will be..i love it.

I picked mine because there's no way of searching within N. Ireland on this site, and it's hard to know if people will look for N.I. people by entering Ireland, or entering UK in the country field.  By having it in my name I hoped to be found more easily by people searching for folks in my area.  The 'sub f' bit is pretty obvious.

Every email I use has my former screen name on here.
I chose it when I returned from Zimbabwe..... Shonglish for "shy one."
I've used it over a dozen years.
When I decided to come backto CM, I gave it a bit of uniqueness for my Sir.
Sirs inini.  Still Shonglish tho.

Edited to add...fun topic to read ! Thanks

I did not come to accept the fact that I'm a sub very easily. Also, I am rather loud and cause lots of distractions when a group is trying to focus.

Tu·mul·tu·ous

1. full of tumult or riotousness; marked by disturbance and uproar: a tumultuous celebration.
2. raising a great clatter and commotion; disorderly or noisy: a tumultuous crowd of students.
3. highly agitated, as the mind or emotions; distraught; turbulent.

I came home from a forensic science lecture where we'd talked about a handful of cases. One of the cases was the Black Dahlia case. The name stuck with me for the next day or so. Shortly after, I came across this site.

Since I had not yet divulged my lifestyle choices to my parents I opted to use the name still floating around in my head, in case anyone ever happened across the website.

When I first joined CM, I didn't know who I was in this world. ... So I was just a "newsubseeking."  After a couple of months, I felt that that nic no longer represented me.  I thought long and hard about the new one. I wanted something that I could use online and in real life. "his songstress" suits me very well. I am a singer, I am female, I am straight, I will always belong to another...even if I don't happen to know who that "another" is at any given time. And it shortens to "song" so nicely... and creates a whole other set of meanings. (I like multifaceted things....like me.)

best!

uh......
iRon, interTubelianMaster of the interGallactic, interStellar Nebulae had two problems, too long to fit in the nickspace and had embedded spaces.

so I shortened it to mn, ottertail and took out the comma and space.

This "name" is a recent name and was requested and given to me by Tyson...I created a new acct ( his decision) to reflect a new phase/reflection in our relationship.  He chose "galilah" because it means " beautiful one".  Tyson means firebrand and holds a family origin as well.

My other name here on CM and my original one was Cyntilating.  I chose that because I wanted something that began with Cyn...my name is Cyndi....Master calls me cyn..
and sintilating mean   "setting off sparks "  which is how I feel most of the time lol   so I changed the spelling up ..and cyntilating was my choice..

I'm Master's slave and "luci" is a shortened version of my given name.  I know....so not creative but I never dreamed I'd be posting this long or often and once I'd started using it, I didn't want to start over with a more creative nic.  So, I kept this one.  I may change it one day.  Who knows............luci
