My aunt makes fudge from scratch and not the one from the marshmallo fluff jar, no fluff in it, tyvm.  This is the only hoiday she makes it for, and 5 or 6 different types - mint, original, rockyroad, peanutbutter, black cherry and someother type I can't remember off hand.  I LOVE the mint one, so I get a small batch all to myself of that. yummmmmy

I've had so many people try to convert me with this or that "from scratch" twue fudge, I've lost track.   I like what I like, and dammit, it's not Christmas until I get some.

And keep the damn walnuts out of my batch too!

Why Christmas cookies of course!
The ones with the red and green sugar sprinkles on them!
I could eat a TON of those!
Maybe Susan ofO will be making those too at her fudge factory.
Anyone heard from her lately?
Oh, and my Birthday cake on the 17th.
And, I'm making a standing Rib Roast on Christmas day!

Homemade butter spritz cookies, made with my cookie press.  I just have too much fun playing with that thing.  And my uncle's to die for, attery clogging creamed mushrooms.  Mmm, and those Brachs peppermint nouget things, though they are bitter sweet for me this year.  My Grammy always had them at Christmas and she passed away this fall.  *sigh* Sweet, minty little memories.

With all the sweets that I endulge myself with this time of year, I find my favorite treat to be something spicy.

I like Cyanne Pepper baked into Trail Mix.

I also like what I call Christmas Corn Bread. It starts of with Yellow Corn Bread mixed with pepper, banna pepper juice, and cyane. On the top of the mix, I place a layer of jalopenos. After baked, I drip red dots of Tabasco Sauce on top of the corn bread. When you see it, the corn bread is decorated with red and green. Wa la, a Christmas treat.

I also enjoy home made vanilla ice cream mixed with jalopenos and lime. Don't knock it unitll you have tried it.

When you have so many sweets on the table, it's good to mix things up with a little hot spice.

Belgian chocolates. I MAKE myself eat them only at Christmas.

I shot a wild turkey for thanksgiving...but Im sure thats not quite what you meant....

I dont really enjoy eating them..but my favortie thing to make each holiday season is christmas cookies...ok, so its just a batch of plain old sugar cookies cut into shapes, but I absolutly love watching the UMs try and decorate them.....

velvetears -> RE: What's your favorite Holiday treat? (food) (12/10/2007 7:02:07 AM)

Ambrosia salad, the harvest and pumpkin pancakes they have at IHOP, Xmas cookies (Italian), ribbon candy... ones i thought of right away.  i love a fresh ham but usually have turkey as the um's prefer it... i like the stuffing which i put sausage, walnuts and some apples in.  This is also the only time of year i will make my own sauce and make lasagna (and i am not even italian)[:D]

LaTigresse -> RE: What's your favorite Holiday treat? (food) (12/10/2007 7:31:24 AM)

My favourite holiday treat would have to be my homemade pralines. I give them as gifts and have had people beg for them. The smell of them is purely, wicked good.

Now that you've metion it, here is my favorite recipie for Egg Nog.

You'll need:

One glass

One bottle of Promise Land Egg Nog

One bottle of Capt Morgans Private Stock

Directions:

Poor Capt Morgan into glass

Poor Egg Nog down a drain

Drink all contents from your glass. Have a Merry Merry Christmas.

Whiskey and Bourbon is for Fall. Rum is for Winter.

Feel free to substitue the Capt Morgan with Celtic Crossing.
