Maybe I'm missing something terribly obvious, but here goes....
is there a way to send a file as an attachment to another member? I mean, something other than a picture? Or, do we just have to exchange emails and do it that way?

Nope. You can only send images in the attachments. You'll have to use your regular email or some IM client to transfer other files to people.

If you have a photo editor, you can turn text and other simliar things into an image.

It does have to have a picture extension on the file.
