I haven't seen this reported anywhere in the media ... shocking ... but it seems like a good handful of single officers serving in combat units, are volunteering to take the place of married officer currently serving overseas, so that they can be with their family for Christmas.

Someone I know, has just made this choice, and ships out on Saturday. Obviously, I hate the decision, but admire and respect people that make it.

I admire them all.  Would that I were still in, so I could also take over for someone who has a family.

Sorry, but that "single person" more than likely has a 'significant other' that is JUST as important as a 'spouse'.

Well consider they demographics of Bush's Occupation Force. Given the strong reliance on the reservists, there is a significant upward trend to the ages of those in service ( we don't even need to discuss going from recruiting up to 35 to up to 42 ), and therefore a greater percentage of established families screwed over than at any other prior time.

It's no wonder Bush is polling shitty with over 60% of MILITARY FAMILIES. Bush has managed to turn the bulk of the supporters against him.
