DrkAngl -> RE: How to use a TENS.... (9/6/2005 7:36:58 PM)

I have never operated a TENs unit, but have been on the recieving end. All I can say is thank the Goddess for these machines. I had a pinched nerve at the time, hip/back area, hurt like hell and was disabling. Finally thanks to therapy with this device, as well as a hot pack, my life got back to normal.

What you might do, if you can't figure more out, is to find a physical therapist as most these days are trained to use one. You might find one here at collar me, or another place, that's willing to talk to you about it. Or look at the PT sites and search on using one.

The unit was used above the waist a few times with me where the pinched nerve was causing problems, so it's possible to use it above the waist. You just have to know where NOT to put it.

As people have stated NEVER across the heart -

this means don't do any of the following:

nipple to nipple,
back to front where the pads create a line through the heart
up to down, etc.

Also:

NEVER on the neck or head unless you are a trained professional.

TENS units are designed to stimulate (flex) muscle and your heart is as close to 100% muscle as it gets in the human body. A TENS unit can override/interupt/disturb the brains' electrical signal to the heart to flex. The worst possible effect being death (heart attack).

A violet wand on the other hand produces static electricity and can be used almost anywhere on the body. Never on the eyes (and remove glasses before using a violet wand too as it can arc from the glasses to the eye). I'm not sure what happens with fillings and a violet wand and I'm not willing to find out from personal experience either. So pretty much stay away from the face and ears.

A violet wand can leave permanent burn scars depending on intensity and type of instrument/attachment used. This can be good or bad depending on your outlook, but something you should be prepared for.

Happy hurting.

One more note on the violet wand and body piercings.

The effect of the wand is intensified through the piercings. Depending on intensity and duration the wand is left in one spot it is easily possibly to burn the flesh around the piercing. Again good or bad depending on outook (although burning an area ultimately desensitises it by killing nerve endings), but something you should be aware of.
